Barcelona at end of the month - what can a young couple do cheaply?

Suggestions please what a mid 20s couple can do (as cheaply as possible) for 5 days in Barcelona. I've suggested a City Tour bus - assuming they operate all year round - to get their bearings and see where might be possible to visit later. Money is very tight and meals will take a fair chunk of the budget, although neither drink, they do enjoy their food! They are happy to explore on foot but I think maybe the Metro could be used to travel a bit further? Can anyone help with other things to do / see both during the day and evenings as not sure what's going to be open at end of September.

Parc Guell is great, I wouldn't bother paying for the bit that's not free.

Sagrada Familia isn't free but is worth booking to see inside.

The food market is amazing.

The beach.

Ciudad Condal is my favourite restaurant and very reasonable.

www.bostonpizza.es/?l=es Here for great pizza :)

TBH we had a young family when we went so not awesome advice for 20s. Lol.
I liked the CosmoCaxia museum and the Sagrada Familia and the Guell Park (last 2 I think we booked in advance before we went because they get booked up fast and only open certain days 🤔 - was 2017 though).

I’d personally skip the bus tour which are usually over inflated prices and just get a (if they still do it) 10 stop metro ticket and just walk around. (You can just use the ticket for any 10 journeys over a time period). Or something like that.
It was really easy to get around with a little in a pushchair on my own.

I guess they’ve already booked hotel but just wanted to say those a bit further out and cheaper E.g. tres Torres area etc was really easy to get about on metro.

Thanks to both for good ideas so far - I'll definitely encourage use of the metro and they will like the food market for sure! Is the cable car something worth doing? Anymore recommendations for places to eat please?

Walk everywhere.
Eat cheaply in bars off the tourist tracks.
Everywhere is open all year round. Lots of free or cheap things to do listed on guide pages on Google.

The underground is mega cheap it’s one price until you leave it but pick pocketing is RIFE in Barcelona so take a bum bag or something with a zip and be extra vigilant at all times . There’s Burger King etc which are Burger King prices .

We did the tour bus and it was good. We went to park guell and paid to get in, wouldn’t say it was worth it! The beach was lovely and there were nice places for lunch beside it. Lots of nice places in the centre to eat

The bus tour is actually really good (or was when we went in 2019).
It comes frequently so you can get on and off at so many different places and don't have to be clock watching for the "one bus on the hour" like some tours. I can't remember the price but I'm a cheapskate so it wouldn't have been extortionate.
Agree that the Sagrada Familia tour is worth booking. Not cheap but so interesting.
It is a nice City to wander round, and of course you have the Beach.
If you start with the bus tour on the first day you might get more insight into where you might want to spend other days.

Totally agree with the pickpocket thing. I saw 2 people get robbed on one walk down the main strip with the food markets on. Both had backpacks and both had purses stolen while they were walking.
Obviously this happens lots of places but it’s better to just keep valuables a bit more safe and in sight.

SWnewstart · 06/10/2022 19:08

Thanks for the reminder about pickpockets! Good to know lots of places will be open at the end of what could be considered the "summer season". Beach / prom walks will be nice too. Is the Ramblas still a bit dodgy at night?
