Has anybody else's child had shingles?

Yes shingles, not chicken pox - even though Dr at A&E tried to correct me several times. GP receptionist wrote chicken pox when I originally called.

This was 5 years ago when she was 8.

She's 13 now and picking up lurgy after lurgy.

She's due to have bloods taken next week. Delayed 2 weeks because fucking locum couldn't take down the number she was calling 🙄

I'm stressed, she eats so well. Would happily eat vegan, but mainly chicken and veg and fruit. She just can't shake off illnesses and obviously having shingles was weird.

Sorry just ranting 😭

My son had shingles when he was 12.

BertaHoon · 03/10/2022 23:40

Thank you @LesLavandes has he ever been constantly run down or anything?

As well as eating well DD has daily vitamin tablet.

I'm just so worried for her.

My son has shingles when he was about 13. Bit unpleasant for a few weeks (rash around his back on a rib line and a bit under the weather) but that was it. He's late 20s now and don't think he's had much else to worry about health-wise

My son had shingles at 2!! Was horrendous and still comes up red and blotchy where it was on occasions, after 5 years! He doesn’t tend to get anymore illness’s then my other kids though

SmellyBumMum · 03/10/2022 23:47

My daughter had shingles when she was 4. She’s 10 now and other than having COVID twice and colds she’s been fine.

Frogshoe · 03/10/2022 23:47

My daughter had shingles when she was 10. She had tonsillitis 3 times, scarlet fever and then shingles. Dr did bloods test but all came back fine

endofthelinefinally · 03/10/2022 23:49

2 of my DC have had shingles twice. Always after a viral infection - flu, tonsillitis, from what I can remember. It was many years ago now.

DustyOwl · 03/10/2022 23:50

Yup, my son had shingles at 2 and was really poorly. He also had a strange reaction to COVID. It went to his stomach and he was in agony, apparently it was glandular. No idea if these two are linked but he does seem to get some strange things (he’s 10 now).

Thanks for all the replies - so for those who's kids had shingles at 2, what age did they have chicken pox bless them.

I know I'm worrying.

My adult son has an auto immune condition that he was referred immediately to a specialist in a hospital out of our region because it was life threatening.

Dd's bloods are only being taken for iron/folates - do you think I should ask for that to be widened?

It's only her recent recurrent illnesses that made me think back to the shingles.

Tonsillitis is linked to auto immune conditions such as psoriasis. I was always getting it, with me scabby skin!

Got a quinsy a few years ago - drove self to go and cried, she sent me to hospital!

Not my child but I had shingles at 25 do young, and been constantly ill in the four years since

Ximenean · 04/10/2022 00:12

Anecdotally shingles seems quite popular in children in my town! Both my children have had it, separately, and my DD's was spotted by my friend because her own DD had had it. I know a few other mums whose DC have had it too.

It's annoying but I think it's just a thing kids get now, rather than anything more worrying.

McConkeysPlate · 04/10/2022 00:17

My son had it at 12, this seemed to be the trigger for M.E.
