Do you know someone who is obsessively petrified of ageing?

I do. And it’s a man. I’ve known him a long time (from when he was mid 20s) and he has a deep dislike for older people or the possibility that he’s ageing. He wears hats indoors to cast a shadow over his wrinkles. He calls old people ‘coffin dodgers’

I find this all quite strange. It’s almost as if he wants me to me obsessive about it too, and he will pretend to think I’m older than I am to see if I bite (I don’t).

The way I see it, we all age. That’s life. And now it’s my children’s turn to be young and beautiful and it’s pretty sad for me to be desperately clinging onto eternal youth. I say this as someone supposedly good looking too. I just don’t think it’s that important forever. There are many more important things as you get older.

Yeh it's sad. Like the only identity they have is around being youthful.

I think celebrity culture doesn't help. Liz Hurley and JLo looking like they are in their 30s in photos which are most likely heavily edited when they are in their 50s.

And the idea of 'letting yourself go'. Or as I call it, not having time for all that.

Erm yes, me 😳
I'm not like your friend though, he sounds unkind, I'm totally non judgemental about how others look, just very hard on myself!

Maybe not quite the same, but my mum. She has suspected parkinsons but refuses to use a walking aid. She said there's no way on earth she ever would. I think she would prefer to fall into the road. She keeps saying that people of her age ( Cliff Richard, Mick Jagger) are disgusting and scoffs at her friends who need walking sticks.

I honestly think she believes she is going to start getting younger soon. She needs a more accessible house but won't part with any of the contents of her three ved house. Everytime she mentions anyone over 70 it's about how they repulse her. She is 76!

I have a friend who's worried about wrinkles and being too old for certain haircuts/clothes/activities since she was 21. She had me thinking I was finished at 30.

Yes, I have a friend who used to be a model. She cries because men no longer look at her when she enters a room and because she can no longer get into size 4 jeans. She’s 57 and has had some reasonably good work done, although the latest work has, I think, gone a bit too far - she has the “cat’s eyes” from the filler and her lips look overdone. She could pass for 35. Her husband worries that it will never stop “What is she going to look like at 80, Tracey?” He is seriously worried about her mental health. I think if she hadn’t had any work done, she would still look beautiful as she has amazing cheekbones and beautiful blue eyes, and a fantastic figure. But she would look 57 and not 35.
