All ready to go in the morning. After two and a half years, tomorrow will be his last morning here and tomorrow evening will be our last together. On Wednesday I will take him to his new family, stay a while then leave him to settle in, on Thursday I will pop back and spend an hour or two with him then on Friday I will go and say "goodbye" then drive home alone.

I hate this bit of fostering; each time one moves on, a bit of my heart goes too but this one has been extra special for a variety of reasons. I hope I have given him roots and wings. Roots to feel secure and wings to fly.

You sound incredible. The children you fostered are forever changed. ❤️

Furrydogmum · 03/10/2022 21:11

You're an amazing woman, what a lucky little boy to have been with you to firm his roots ❤

SBAM · 03/10/2022 21:12

Thank you for being willing to have your heart broken to mend that little ones heart. I hope the love and security you’ve given him stay with him forever.

Afonavon · 03/10/2022 21:19

You have given him a solid foundation, which will stand him in good stead for the rest of his life. You are amazing, especially with everything you have been through! 🌻

@Noteverybodylives They move on because in most cases foster care is temporary while all the bones of the case are sorted and a decision is taken on whether the child returns home, goes for adoption or moves to long term foster care. Wherever possible short term foster carers (like me in this case) support a child to either return home to parents, move on to adoption or move to long term foster care. Short term foster care can turn into a long term fostering and the child will stay until adulthood. The decision to award a long term foster placement is often made at the final court hearing and often the foster carers who are caring for that child will offer a long term home. I will be in my 70s by the time this little one reaches his teens and I am not sure I would be the right person to care for him when we reach that stage.

@TooMuchToDoTooLittleInclination Yes, I am hoping to be able to continue to see him but it is up to the adopters ultimately, it is recognised that it is in his best interests for children and their foster carers to maintain a relationship. The other little one is doing amazingly! I get very regular updates and have met up with her and her new family since the move happened. I am having a week off after this little one moves then coming home to make the house ready for my next fosterling.

@bloodywhitecat At what age did you start fostering if you don't mind me asking ?

bloodywhitecat · 03/10/2022 21:25

What a wonderful, selfless and warm person you are; a complete angel and you will have set this little lad up for life just to have had your unconditional love and care 🥰

That's good to know, it's something I'm really interested in, just need a bigger house.

Another one saying you are an absolutely woman. And it's not my position to say it, but I'm bloody certain Mr BWC is incredibly proud of you right now. I don't know how you've got through the last year but you are definitely my hero.

SuperlativeOxymoron · 03/10/2022 20:17

I've been following your story @bloodywhitecat over the past few years. You are one amazing individual. It takes a strong person to do what you do. And to do it while going through what you have. Thank you!!

You've given him the best start to his life and long may that continue.

All of this 👏

I too have followed your posts & know the heartbreak you've been through.

You're amazing 🙌

DreadingWinter · 03/10/2022 22:42

You went through such a terrible experience recently and yet managed to give those two fosterlings security. I don't know how you did it, but you are superwoman.
