Address says Wigan but we’re not in Wigan?

Does anybody know why our address near Parbold in West Lancashire says Wigan? We’re nowhere near Wigan so it seems really strange.

I have a Stockport post code but live in Derbyshire!

Knutsford also has a WA postcode😁

Dp worked in WH too. It is a BL postcode though, but with a wigan phone number!

Yeah, it's all kinds of crazy with towns, authorities, postcodes, phone numbers!
I have to sort out (as a community midwife) which visits are ours, and where they belong to if not. Honestly it is such a bane of my life! There is wn4 that is Ashton... then the wn4 that is Garswood which crosses the county line from Wigan council to St Helens Council. I'm forever plugging postcodes in to "who do I pay my council tax to" to see which visits are ours, or not!
Just..... arrrrrrghhhhhhh!

I have the same postcode as a pp and have literally never even heard of the place they live in!

In my not at all posh town, one fancier enclave has given itself another name. The postal town name is still part of the official address but they absolutely refuse to use it 😆

It doesn't really epitomise the real housewives of Cheshire does it?

Ah yes, I have tried to explain this to my 'old' Leeds friends (someone crossed the border here a few years ago...). Greater Manchester and/or Lancashire is just crazy for postcodes.

I live within Wigan, with a Manchester postcode and travel through Salford to get to work almost within Bolton - all a 2.5 mile journey!

Just over the good old East Lancs is Warrington too.

Same near me. A newish development with a brand new name!

Oh, and as a PP said, Warrington is officially Cheshire. 😂

Or Merseyside?!

I lived in Westhoughton for five years (I live in the US now) and I will always call it Westhoughton, Bolton, Lancashire.
I simply will not acknowledge it as Greater Manchester 😜
My MIL lives in Leigh and still will continue to insist it's Lancashire but seeing as she has a WN7 postcode and pays Wigan council tax, there's no hope for her. 😆

I have the same issue in the Blackpool area. Blackpool is it’s own authority but you can live on one half of a street and be in Blackpool and the other and be in Lancashire. Our favourite question is, “What colour are your bins?”. My own house has a Preston postcode and Blackpool phone number but we’re closer in distance to Lancaster.

Well to be fair Leigh is on its own i would also insist its in Lancashire even though it isn't, I'm a Bury born and bread I refuse to believe bury is now in Greater Manchester.

I have a Bolton postcode, a Rochdale dialling code, a Lancashire county address but I technically live in Manchester, our town moved from Lancashire to Manchester in 1974 when the boundary was changed.

We have a postal address of a town that's 10 miles to the West, the telephone code of another town 10 miles South and our nearest town us actually 8 miles to the North.
Oh, and our borough council area doesn't include our postal address town so there's frequently confusion. When I was discharged from hospital after a major accident a few years ago I was without any mobility aids etc for weeks as the OT and physio service is organised by borough. One borough refused to see me because they wouldn't believe I live there and the other wouldn't because I actually don't live there!
