I really need to improve my dental care so please give me your top tips!
If you brush at night do you brush again in the morning before breakfast? Do you then brush again after breakfast?

I dip my interdental sticks in toothpaste and brush them between my teeth to start with, then I use floss where I have tighter gaps. Then I brush using Oral B electric brush.
I don't use mouthwash and have been told by my dentist that it is a waste of time.

I used to use corsodyl mouthwash and it stained my teeth!

I used to have gum problems which is why I am now thorough. Not got any problems at the moment.

willowtree00 · 03/10/2022 07:18

P.a twice a day

Sunshineandrainbow · 03/10/2022 10:41

I did wonder if Toothpaste needs to be added to those tiny brushes

Piksters interdental brushes in a variety of sizes

I think the best tip is to go to the dentist and see what your specific needs are. I never go to the dentist but my teeth are strong and white. I brush 2 or 3 times a day with baking soda toothpaste and ocassionaly use straight baking soda as a mouthwash, I don't get tartar buildup. I brush after morning coffee, sometimes in the middle of the day and then after my last meal/drink of the day.

ChocChipOwl · 03/10/2022 10:55

Use the best toothbrush you can afford. I use the Oral B IO8

Don't over brush - no need to select the 'intense' setting on your toothbrush! Go for gum care or sensitive option

Interdental sticks once a day

Don't rinse your mouth with water or mouthwash after brushing

JackieDaws · 03/10/2022 10:56

Interdental brushes, brushing teeth at least twice a day, and doing both sides of the teeth, appointment with dental hygienist every few months, and if you're very lucky, a prescription for Colgate Duraphat mouthwash for decay.

HairyKnobsAndBroomsticks · 03/10/2022 11:14

I would book an appointment with a hygienist. They will do a scale and polish and give you advice and tell you which size interdental brushes to use. I need two different size brushes, my molars are more tightly packed than my front teeth. The hygienist is £60 where I live, they give lots of advice and tell/show you how you can improve.

I brush three times a day with oral b electric toothbrush and I use the floss action brush heads. I use the interdental brushes and have a Waterpik.

HairyKnobsAndBroomsticks · 03/10/2022 11:17

I couldn't visit the dentist through lockdown and then needed 4 fillings so I really upped my game.

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 03/10/2022 11:21

I was rather pleased at my latest dentist visit. I had a bit of a gum thing going on but she said my routine is clearly doing the job and to keep up the good work 😇 Every day (usually morning but not always first thing 😯) I do the interdental brush poking (I do use a little toothpaste), floss, then electric toothbrush (I like sonic rather than spin) then at night I just use the sonic again. It’s easy to get into the routine.

I've recently bought a water pik and it's made such a difference. So now I brush twice a day and waterpik once a day - I don't need those TeePee brushes anymore

That's good to know, I only got my Waterpik a few days ago

FluffySocksAndHotChocolate · 03/10/2022 11:26

I had them out and got dentures, have lovely teeth now. Grin

No I'm not kidding either. That's what happens if you don't up your game. (Mine was through a genetic disease but honestly just look after them brush them twice a day, use mouthwash inbetween.)

MIL is a dentist. DH swishes his mouth out with water after eating or drinking tea etc. No fillings! I’ve started doing the same and no more fillings since we started dating.

ppeatfruit · 03/10/2022 11:45

Before breakfast I irregularly : 3 or 4 times a week, use a drop of Ttree or mint or lavender essential oil mixed with water, sometimes I rub it on my gums or use 2 tspoons of light oil like almond. Then use as a mouthwash for 10 to 15 mins (while you shower or whatever) . it removes a lot of bacteria so you spit out down the loo. Then I use an electric toothbrush gently. I just brush at night before bed.

This is called oil pulling but you can do it with plain water , the time you take to mouth wash makes an amazing amount of difference to the look (and health) of your teeth, my dentist is impressed with my teeth. He wanted to recommend it to his superiors but they thought no one would have the time to do it which is stupid!!!

The problem with the over the counter mouthwashes is a lot of people are allergic to them :,Iam. My dentist used to use the stuff beginning with Cor. but he uses T tree now on my mouth.

mrsjimhopper · 03/10/2022 12:49

Try a waterpik water flosser.

Made a huge difference to me. I know some don't rate it but my mouth is so much cleaner and also use the te or brushes.

Clean and floss with the waterpik twice a day. Hygienist 3 x per year.

jewishmum · 03/10/2022 12:54

Use an extra soft toothbrush, I have had expensive electric ones and always find myself going back to manual ones as it feels more thorough.

Electric toothbrush and a water Flosser! Have stopped my gum disease

Can I ask how often you use your Waterpik please?

Irridescantshimmmer · 03/10/2022 13:30

I brush with a soft tooth brush and leave the toothpaste in my mouth whilst I draw an interdental toothbrush.....with a spike....across my gum line and between each tooth, both on the inside and outside of my teeth. This is excellent for wisdom teeth too. Then I use a flosser as well as mouthwash.

My dentist keeps telling me my teeth are very clean.

Don't wish to gross anyone out but by the 3rd time I used the interdental toothbrush, the toothpaste turned yellow so I knew it was working.

I never get tooth ache.

I really hope that you never get toothache, honestly it is the worst pain ever. I would sooner give birth.

Buy hydrogen peroxide 6% from the chemist for a couple of quid, swill around your mouth once a week.

Oral B electric toothbrush (the new iO ones are supposed to be excellent), floss/interdental brushes, water flosser. Also cut down on sugar. You only need to brush before or after breakfast, not both.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 03/10/2022 19:13

@HairyKnobsAndBroomsticks
I use it twice daily
First thing in the morning and after my evening meal
Not necessarily at the same time as brushing otherwise it washes toothpaste away

idonotmind · 03/10/2022 19:57

I don't believe in flossing really

Low sugar helps
