Can you sleep before your kids get home?

DS is 17 and went out at 10pm for an hour. I'm exhausted but my brain won't let me fall asleep till I know he's home.

It's like I'm terrified of waking up at 7am and realising he never came home.

It's not a conscious decision. I just can't sleep!
. Anyone else do this.

It depends where you live and who they are out with . My children were pretty safe because I new who they were out with and we live in a very safe town.
Having said that I did have the safety of knowing they would call me if they had a problem and I only slept lightly whilst they were out !

I live in a shitty big city (for context someone was stabbed next to our house) so I don't find it easy to know he's OK at all.

He's with good friends, all good boys but it's not his mates I worry about.

Yes generally I can (now) but he texts me when he's home and I'll usually wake up intermittently until I get the text. He's rarely home after 1am and I know where he is as he has a group of friends where 1 or 2 of them have more relaxed parents and are happy to have them over of an evening.

They go wandering around the streets. Of he was in someone's house I could probably relax more.

Ah I'd struggle in that situation too op. We live in a pretty safe area but I do sometimes worry about car accidents though as a couple of the boys have recently passed driving tests and will sometimes give lifts home. We live in a semi rural area with lots of dark fast and windy roads.

YANBU, I have two teenagers and am exactly the same.

I can’t sleep until everyone in the household is in for the night. That includes DH. I need to know everyone is home safe in order to sleep.

I can't sleep either, until everyone home, it's a struggle.

I can’t turn off properly if I know somebody is due to be coming home at some point. My body doesn’t see the point of sleeping to be temporarily woken up, so I don’t get any sleep. Thoroughly annoying.

My eldest has left for university, so it’s not an issue during the term. When she’s home and working/socialising it’s hard, though she does try to be as quiet as possible.
