I think transferred through touching skin to skin but I don’t think you have to be having sex.

have you tried

donquixotedelamancha · 02/10/2022 22:07

Yes. That's why Zoos are giving away free condoms.

It was originally an Std but found only in animals. It has now jumped the species barrier and is affecting humans without intercourse. There have been many diseases that have jumped the species barrier over time some sexually transmitted some not. The most well known of which is AIDS.
Strangely none of these ever seem to have originated in the UK, US or any other Western countries apart from CJD to my limited knowledge. The jury is of course still out on as to why this is.

You say that but not one person who practiced safe sex with monkeys has had the disease.

How about apes?

No, it’s not an STI (I work in sexual health). It’s transferred by skin to skin contact, not sex.

But sexual health services have been handling the bulk of cases because it’s been largely affecting gay men (who have a lot of skin to skin contact, realistically, and may be more likely to be immuno-compromised). For lots of reasons, they feel more comfortable accessing sexual health services and it’s easier to get an appointment with us than a GP. But no, it’s not sexually transmitted, no more than say chicken pox is.

I don't think apes practice safe sex.
