Familiar "baby crying" sound on television...

I've noticed this for YEARS and I've always wondered about it. In certain films, soaps and dramas whenever there is a baby crying in the background there is a certain cry that is EXACTLY the same, it has to be the same recording used by literally everyone in the producing universe! It's definitely the same sound... like a low moan and then a high one. I've noticed it probably 50 times on loads of different things but frustratingly the only thing at the moment I can remember is when baby Tyler is crying in his pram on the "Jolly Boys Outing" Only Fools episode... now tonight I'm watching Lion on Netflix and at 1:42:48 it happens again.

I cannot be the only person who has noticed this!

That and the ubiquitous ring tone on mobile phones ringing!

Yes. Universal sounds are often used.

There is also the wilhelm scream.

You’ll hear that scream in LOADS of films. It’s been used since the 50s.

Most of the programs you’ve watched in the last 10 plus years or so where there’s laughter soundtracks in the background, the laughter is from people who are now deceased. They were recorded decades ago. As pp said the sounds are universally used. One example of this is people thinking that all/most frogs make the noise ‘ribbit’, when it’s actually only one select species of frog that lives in Hollywood. This frog was recorded and used for so many movies worldwide that people think they all make that noise
