I've had this rash for a few months now. Had a telephone call with gp and she prescribed a cream which doesn't do an awful lot. I think I'm allergic to something and have tried the following
Stopping using charcoal face wash, then a different face wash and now using dove soap
Am about to change shampoo
Tried not wearing make up
Tried using just Nivea soft and not my usual anti aging cream
Cancelled my next hair dye appointment
It seems to die down then starts up a bit and it's starting to get me down.

Noooooo to the Aldi cream it's too harsh. You need CeraVe moisturiser along with the cleanser and nothing else. Give it 3 weeks to repair the skin barrier.

What did the GP give you?

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 09/10/2022 13:40

It was this. Does it have tea tree in it? My face felt very tight after and I knew it was a mistake.
Make up I put on because I was going to mil for a party and I feel really self conscious over how I look. I can just about be ok not wearing it for work. I do suffer with eczema but never on my face.

Got the cerave face wash and will only use that once this has calmed down. I really appreciate your advice. Got the cream on order.

cocamidopropyl betaine is the second ingredient in that face wash and a common cause of contact dermatitis.

Gosh. I'm an idiot. Thank you

@Ponderingwindow I think you maybe on to something. That ingredient is also in the John Frieda shampoo but not in the L'Oréal one I've started using. Its also in the dove soap which surprised me. It's also in some hand wash and my hands have been a bit sore. Also in my shower gel but not had any problems there. I'm avoiding it now though. Thank you 🙏🏻

I really appreciate everyone on this thread for taking the time to try and help me. Thanks everyone. It's calmed down a bit now but still itchy.

This stuff is really hard to navigate. I have been through formal
allergy testing. I have a list of my allergens. I still occasionally mess up. There are so many variations on chemical names and manufacturers change formulations without mention all the time.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 12/10/2022 18:40

Completely agree. It's a minefield and I really feel for anyone navigating it. It's definitely getting better now but I'm finding practically everything has this ingredient in. So frustrating!

How did you get the allergen testing done?

I’m in the US. If a person has insurance, the barriers to necessary testing are low.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 12/10/2022 19:08

Ah ok. Thanks for replying. I am in uk but have bupa through work so I'm thinking I should be ok? Thanks again by the way. I'm pretty sure you helped me work all this out!

Do you take daily antihistamines? You could ask GP to prescribe a stronger one for when you're skin flares while you're on the waiting list for allergy testing. Does look like a reaction to something you're using though. I'm allergic to iodine used in operations and look like I've been scalded for days when it's touched my skin. Gp gave antihistamines daily and steriod cream x

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 12/10/2022 22:06

I could do that yes

OP posts:
OrlandointheWilderness · 12/10/2022 22:58

Tbh I'd stop absolutely everything apart from water. I'd just not put anything on at all and be very careful about shampoo etc touching your face. No make up/cream/soap etc.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 13/10/2022 00:07

If it's itchy you could try a little Antishan cream on it and a big dose of Piriton liquid before bed ( you'll sleep well if nothing else!)

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 28/10/2022 16:20

Does anyone know if a milk allergy can cause this? Just I also get bloated feelings and joint pain and seen that they can be symptoms. I was allergic to egg yolk as a baby which gave me a neck rash.

OP posts:
Thelnebriati · 01/11/2022 15:06

I'm allergic to lactose, it causes gastric symptoms and joint pain. I'm ok with a drop of lactose free milk in my tea but wouldn't ever want to drink it. I can eat hard cheese and most brands of yogurt. Antihistamines don't help it at all so you might have 2 things going on.

BobbyBobbyBobby · 01/11/2022 15:13

My person view is that it’s from within and Is a reaction from an ingredient or food or drink product.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 02/11/2022 21:26

Thank you for replying 😌. I'm also thinking g this now. Been drinking oat milk in my tea and coffee since the weekend and it seems to be feeling better. I don't know if it's just me though as I would've thought it would take longer. I now have a referral and approval from bupa to see a dermatologist for two consultations and some tests so I may figure out what it is. It's interesting to hear this though as I've not been able to properly crouch for a few years now. Can do squats and run and things but my knees are awful and since had arm pain. GP just referred me to physio without actually seeing me.
