Should I be concerned about my nipples?

A few years ago I noticed my left nipple had disappeared inside & no amount of coaxing would get it to pop out. Hubby tried to encourage it but it was having none of it. I went to the GP who referred me to the local breast screening service. They said it all looked fine & inverted nipples sometimes happened after breastfeeding as the milk ducts collapse. Although it had been about 12 years since I had breast fed my youngest.
I felt reassured so when the other one followed suit a couple of years ago I wasn't too concerned health wise.
For some reason I've become more self conscious about them & complained to my husband & we did some research into how to encourage them out again. Well we sent off for some nipple training cups & we tried them earlier. They are like feeding bottle teats that you put over the nipple & a suction pulls them out. The idea is to do this every day & 'train' then to stand up again.
Well the right one worked straight away, a weired sensation but ok. The left one really^ hurt & now it's bleeding. Do you think I've done damage, is it a symptom of something else or just a reaction to being interfered with?
Should I continue 'training' the right one?
Sorry quite a waffly post.^

I would go back to doctors just for them to check over the bleeding one
