Baby vomitting lots

DS (1 tomorrow) has been poorly this week, full of cold and then conjunctivitis started yesterday. Today the conjunctivis seemed a bit better but, he vomited a very large amount so we clean him up but hes vomited loads since, he's never been sick like this before it's like adult sick. He's very rarely poorly so I feel so sorry for him and not sure whether to get him checked out because of the vomiting? He's whimpering a lot aswell. He's fallen asleep on me now (which he never does) but I'm just worried about him.

Call 111

Never any harm in getting a wee one checked.

Sick bugs are awful.

It could be him clearing all the snot and rubbish.

Things to look for

Does he have a fever

Are nappies wet

Is he drinking plenty

yes seek medical help. Things can move from bad to very bad very quickly in babies. It’s the dehydration that’s the big concern. Do whatever you can to keep him hydrated.

My DS always used to vomit whenever he had a high temperature at that age. It was scary and smelly! It's usually only a problem if it makes them dehydrated. But, as others have said it's always a good idea to get them checked to be on the safe side.

Thanks guys, just called 111 and going to take him to him to get checked over. Poor little soul 😢

@jellytots5 how is he

He seemed to get worse after I posted this, so weak and lethargic and couldn't even keep water down, just kept flopping down on me. We were at the hospital for about 4 hours and they said it seems to just be a bug so we're home now and he's gone to sleep. He perked up a bit in the past hour or so and has been smiling a little and sitting up himself. Still being sick though not as much it seems. Hoping he's feeling better tomorrow for his birthday, although we're just moving our plans to next weekend when he's better Smile

Poor little thing, hope he's feeling better today? When my DS was struggling to keep liquid down we used to squirt water/rehydration solution into his mouth with a Calpol syringe every 5 minutes. Tedious but keeps them hydrated!

jellytots88 · 06/10/2022 22:03

He's still not better. He's not interested in solids still and not having much milk. Didn't have a wet nappy for 9 hours today (from 8-5) and hasn't had one since. He has just an awful chesty cough now that this is what's making him vomit now. I'm so worried about him but gp keeps saying it's viral, bring him back if he's no better the next day so I did today and was made to feel like I'm wasting their time even though they told me to bring him back. He's got no energy and just wants to sleep all the time. Managed some weetabix today (that's all he ate and still wasn't very keen) but has just woke up projectile vomiting and sobbing. 6 days now this has been going on. Persisting with water but still not improving.

Just remembered I changed username so not sure if it's showing up that I'm the OP.

Hi, I really don’t want to worry you but if you are still concerned and he’s no better please look at the symptoms of meningitis, some of the things you’ve said remind me of my DD symptoms. We got sent home from A&E after being told it was likely just a viral infection, it was actually bacterial meningitis. Hope he’s ok OP x

Oh gosh I hope your DD is now better! He doesn't have a temp, it was 37 when DP checked half an hour ago. The GP rang peads at the hospital when I was there to get advice but they just said continue with fluids at home, I have heard so so many people with children who have kept being told something is viral only for it to turn out to be serious. I'm really not the type to constantly have him at the GP either, I'm just very worried about him as he's never been like this before.

Ah bless him Sad
Keep an eye on his temp and try to keep his fluids up as best you can. If you are still concerned and he isn’t improving just take him back to GP/hospital.
hope he gets better soon
