Daytime clothes to bed

Eeksilon · 01/10/2022 07:28

Does anyone else do this? We generally wear whatever t-shirt or top worn during the day to bed, with underwear. Think it crept on from sleeping naked but keeping a layer on when cold (neither DP nor I have designated nightwear).

Hadn't really thought about it but realised for the last year or so the kids (8&9) do it also so we've clearly passed on the habit! It definitely saves on washing 🤷🏼‍♀️ we don't wear visibly dirty clothes to bed, and the kids change into regular clothes after school.

Does anyone else just continue to wear their daytime outfit into bed??

Obviously no intention with this, just to establish how weird we're being, or not 😁

Yes. I change pants but wear the same vest to bed each night that I wore during the day.

KangarooKenny · 01/10/2022 07:43

No. I have a shower/bath and put on clean knickers and a vest I wear for bed. The vest is worn for a week at a time.

dancemom · 01/10/2022 07:44

If you sleep in your clothes don't they get stretched out of shape?

Raidtheice · 01/10/2022 07:46

I have PJs. But I will sometimes keep the t-shirt I've been wearing on and sleep in it without PJ bottoms. Particularly in the summer.

I shower in the morning. I sweat like mad in bed and would stink if I showered before bed.

Pinkandpurplehairedlady · 01/10/2022 07:47

I do this. I put clean pants on but just take my bra off and sleep in the T-shirt I’ve worn that day (I shower in the morning so I’m not smelly for work!)

ofwarren · 01/10/2022 07:47

Yes, I do this. So does my husband and all of the children.

LostaraYil · 01/10/2022 07:49

Yep, I do this, can't be bothered with the constant changing of clothes. Generally I'll sleep in the comfy clothes I put on when I get home from work, e.g. t-shirt plus joggers if it's cold enough.

Eeksilon · 01/10/2022 07:56

Not that unusual at all then! Ok that's interesting (& a teensy bit of a relief, not for us were obviously not bothered, but for kids on sleepovers if anything). Yes agree, it feels Daft to make more washing, we do at least one a day already!

@dancemom no, I always find clothes stretch no more than if you were lounging on the sofa, and stretched clothes go back to reg shape/size after a wash anyway.

We have a max 24hr- straight limit (essential with kids who are natural born mingers and would have to be wrestled from their clothes without this) 😁

Based on this thread I might start donning fresh pants for bed though, like the sound of that! 🥰

Yes, I do( or a long sleeved top)
I live alone and it cuts down on Laundry
I'm post menopause and literally don't sweat anymore( apart from my head!)
I have a shower most mornings

BorisJohnsonsHair · 01/10/2022 13:38

I wear pyjamas for bed, which get washed once a week. Don't see how that makes more washing? I could wear a t-shirt for 2 or 3 days, but wouldn't if I'd slept in it.

(Waits for the anti-bac brigade to appear to say this is utterly disgusting and you should always sleep in clean clothes and sheets every night)

Musicofthespheres · 01/10/2022 13:41

Pants to bed?? Strange why?

Chikapu · 01/10/2022 13:47

As long as you're not wearing them again the next day I don't see much of a problem with it. I'm not seeing how it would work if you were wearing a jumper/sweatshirt/dress during the day though.

PauliesWalnuts · 01/10/2022 13:50

I don’t wear anything - prefer to sleep in the nuddy and if I’m cold I get a hot water bottle or put a blanket on top. I do wear Saturdays clothes on Sunday if I’m just knocking round the house though.

howaboutchocolate · 01/10/2022 13:54

Sometimes, if depends what I'm wearing. Some t-shirts aren't comfy to sleep in so I'll wear pyjamas.
I'm amazed by people getting a week's wear out of pyjamas, mine last one or two nights depending on how sweaty I get.

woodhill · 01/10/2022 13:55

No I always wear nightclothes

HairyMothballs · 01/10/2022 13:57

Yes, if I've worn a t-shirt during the day and it isn't grubby, I'll wear it to bed with a clean pair of knickers.

shortpeopleproblems · 01/10/2022 14:11

It's funny, I am an ABSOLUTE slattern by Mumsnet standards (e.g. shower frequency and don't even ask how rarely I change my sheets), but I couldn't imagine doing this! While I'd absolutely get into bed for a quick nap with daytime clothes, I just can't imagine overnight sleep in them. Arent pyjamas usually different materials to day clothes? Stretchier? Lighter? I don't know, it gives me the ick - but like I say, I am absolutely NOT a judgy clean freak. How interesting!

Ccoffee · 01/10/2022 15:15

If it's a big loose t-shirt I've just been lounging around at home in all day then, sometimes yes. But not anything I've worn out and about (because sweaty) or more fitted (as wouldn't be comfortable to sleep in).

AlmostSummer21 · 01/10/2022 15:23

Yes, I do.

whatever t shirt I'm wearing before bed & the pants I'm wearing. I see no need to change them. I shower in the mornings. If I shower at night I'd put clean pants & t.shirt in (if anything).

I love the idea of pyjamas but I always end up with them twisted & uncomfortable. I'll occasionally leave my leggings on, but I invariably regret it because I get far too hot.

Oopsilot · 01/10/2022 15:28

No I wouldn’t wear the grime of the day in my nice clean bed.
Do you do this even if you’ve been in a cafe and have cooking smells on you?
Actually even if you’ve cooked an evening meal at home you would smell of cooking, I’d hate to roll over in bed and get a whiff of roast chicken or lasagna or something.

I do the same. It would be more washing for me if I changed every 24 hours. Average of three t-shirts a week in winter and one to bed vs seven worn for 24 hours.

I only used to change every 24 hours when my house was very cold. I changed jeans to track pants or flannelette bottoms, took off my bra under my clothes and went to bed like that. Then I only had to undress once a day.

I'm not grimy! If I was I'd change, but being an adult I'm not generally rolling around in the dirt. Obviously if I've done 'dirty jobs' like cleaning out the garage or mowing the lawn, I'd shower & put a clean T-shirt on to sleep in, if I hadn't done so earlier.

My clothes don't smell of food/cooking, no.

what are you doing? Smearing dinner over your clothes?

Sheepwalker · 01/10/2022 15:42

No, I wouldn't do that. Mainly because DC and I have bad hay fever so I wouldn't encourage anything that could put pollen on their bedclothes. They're not allowed to roll around on their beds in clothes they've been outside
in.
