i think I might be heading down that road

I take sertraline. Bad side effects at first but life changing after a few weeks

Toas1 · 30/09/2022 20:25

Diazepam and pre gablin are the best for me

SirenSays · 30/09/2022 20:26

Never found one that works for me and feel like I've tried everything. Propranolol was so useless I may as well have just had some tic tacs

Umbrellabee · 30/09/2022 20:33

I take a slow release version of propranolol each morning. Helps a lot. I don’t have many side effects from it other than just being very tired but it’s worth it for me. I feel much calmer on it.

Setraline. It has transformed me and I love it so much.

Same

slapmyarseandcallmemary · 30/09/2022 20:34

Tried most of them. Propanalol did nothing for me. Mirtazipine was good, but I put on a great deal of weight. Fluoxetine and sertraline I had suicidal thoughts with. I'm now on Paroxetine. I have anxiety and postnatal anxiety. The paroxetine takes the edge off.

DontTrustThisPoster · 30/09/2022 20:34

effexor here, it’s taken my days from being suicidal to being on an even keel, no highs or lows.

vipersnest1 · 30/09/2022 20:34

@NooNooHead1981, I'm sorry to hear you've been affected badly by pericyazine.
I take it occasionally and for me it's helpful - and it kicks in around 20 minutes after I've taken it. It is an unusual drug to be prescribed for anxiety, admittedly.

I also take 20mg of citalopram, which I've been on in the past and I know this dose works for me - I have had a very difficult year (I'd call it my Annus Horabilis), and knew I needed some help mental-healthwise.

The thing is @GingerKittenTail, different people find different drugs helpful - no one here can tell you what will be helpful to you.
What I would say, though, is that if you feel like you're heading down that road, it's time to do something now. Don't wait until you feel really bad. You might not hit on the right drug for you straight away, but you will eventually. And, just to warn you, you might feel a bit worse for a while, whilst your body is getting used to the drug.
Good luck. Flowers

SirChenjins · 30/09/2022 20:40

I take Trazadone ( Molipaxin) - it’s given me my life back, and I’m not exaggerating.

paisley256 · 30/09/2022 20:43

For anxiety Citalopram really helped especially when my heart was beating hard and fast.

In the grip if a panic attack though, when you can't regulate your breathing and literally feel like you're going to die then diazepam is the only think that has worked. It slows everything down so you can breath normally again. Even knowing I have some at hand seems to make me much more relaxed. Prescribed by psychiatrist.

shmiz · 30/09/2022 20:45

Escitalopram gave me my life !!!
will wrestle any one who tries to take it off me
I was very anxious / panicky before

Tinygem · 30/09/2022 20:46

Lorazepam, totally turned my anxiety around, along with an extremely good GP.

Allmarbleslost · 30/09/2022 20:53

Fluoxetine. I feel a lot better but it hasn't been a magic cure. I would love to try propranolol but I've been told I can't have it because I'm asthmatic.

LaPufalina · 30/09/2022 21:17

I took propranolol and just found it took the edge off by not letting my heart rate get too high; I didn't feel any different otherwise.
Valium was lovely though Grin apathy in a tablet!

PossiblyPertunia · 30/09/2022 21:19

Prescribed propananol - had an allergic reaction.
That was fun...

Kizzy192 · 30/09/2022 21:20

Sertraline 150mg. It's been a life saver, and I don't feel 'drugged'. It can cause some side effects to start with but they ease off to nothing (for me at least). I do have to take them in the morning or I get crazy vivid dreams, but I get that when I'm pregnant too so I think it's what happens when my levels messed with ... I tried propanolol for a while but it didn't work for me, I felt no different. Good luck 🌻

Caramelsmadfuzzytail · 30/09/2022 21:20

I am currently on citalopram, its made life easier. I was on sertraline but I stopped taking it due to not being able to function properly. I tried mirtazipine but put on weight. SNRI's in general had no positive effect.
I took fluoxetine when it was commonly known as prozac and again before my current anti depressant. I cant remember what happened the 1st time but the 2nd I spent feeling sick the entire time I was on it.
What I would really like is to have a tablet that does more than "take the edge off"

TooHotToTangoToo · 30/09/2022 21:31

I use propranolol when at work, I suffer really bad stage fright, and get panic attacks and anxiety, when I have to do presentations (at least 5 a month), so I take it as an when I need it. It's meant I get to stay and do a job I love. It started off with full on anxiety all the time so I took it daily, I now only use it as and when I need to

Creamcrackersandricecakes · 30/09/2022 21:35

I was prescribed citalopram over the phone for anxiety, when I was actually in perimenopause and should have insisted on HRT, (I'm on it now). I had the most horrific reaction to it, both mentally and physically - my stomach was literally turned inside out, vomiting, diarrhoea, the works. I also started waking at 3am in a blind panic with suicidal thoughts. This was on a relatively low dose too! A different doctor told me to stop them immediately and it's now on my notes that I'm not to have SSRIs under any circumstances. I'm now on HRT and I have propranolol to take as and when needed, which have helped enormously.

Bumblefuzz · 30/09/2022 21:55

Sertraline. It balances me out and lets me get on with my life. I still have some anxiety and OCD symptoms, but the panic is much less and I can leave the house without going back to check the front door 25 times.

SpudsIluv · 30/09/2022 22:03

Benzodiazepines are highly addictive and should only be used as a last resort, short term, they are classed as sedatives. Gp's are generally very reluctant to prescribe.

I have been taking sertraline for years prescribed by my gp. I have no intention of coming off them.

SpudsIluv · 30/09/2022 22:09

Sertraline is an SSRI completely different class of drugs, I'm on citalopram also an SSRI, very safe for long term use. Be weary of benzos.

bananaorange00 · 30/09/2022 22:19

I have just had the most awful postpartum anxiety that left me barely functioning. I have been taking 50mg of sertraline and propanalol as needed and it's changed my life! The sertraline makes you feel a bit worse at first but after the first few days I really felt the anxiety lift x

My initial need for citalopram was postnatal anxiety, massive improvement in days-weeks.
