Asking for a pay rise at work…

I have been working for my company for 7 years now, a charity who pays for marketing services from an individual each month.
This PR person has now retired and I have been asked to take on a few of the tasks and duties this person did on a monthly basis. I was waiting for my manager to mention extra money but they haven’t and I will soon be starting this extra work.

Am I within my right to ask for a pay rise, seeing as we will be saving £30k a year on these invoices?

There isn’t that much extra to do, but if they were being paid £2000 a month surely I would be entitled to something extra?

How could I approach the subject, as I don’t want to appear greedy but don’t want to seem like a pushover at the same time?!

thanks for any advice…

Two options

You could be enthusiastic and say how you're excited about this potential expansion of your role and opportunity to put in to practice what you've learned from the retired person. It's great to have the opportunity with an expanded role and ask them what your new title and salary will be.

If it's the admin side with no proposed increase in either salary or your resources then I'd be direct and say that you'd love to take this on, where do they propose you direct other work so you can manage it within your existing job spec.

Within the 2k did you ever get an idea of how the time was spent? Some PR contractors provide a breakdown to clients.

It's not illegal to ask for a payrise under any circumstances, so yes you're within your rights.

And what's wrong with looking greedy?

Take the emotion out of it... I will be doing work that has x value to the company, therefore I am asking for y amount payrise to recognise the value of my work. If I turn out to be good at it, I might ask for more to reflect the increased value I am bringing.
