Need some advice. Toddler involved in minor car accident

Hi all,
stupid women in her cat just rammed into the back of my car. Back bit of car damaged. Toddler was in his car seat and didn’t seem to realise that a car went into back of us. He was strapped into his car seat properly watching eye pad and only flinched for moment, when the impact happened. I’m also fine apart from the panic the impact caused (we were stationary in the car at red light)
Should I take him to a&e for a checkup? He seems fine, but i think I’m being paranoid as toddler was in back and I was in front.
mum panicking as never been in this situation before. What should I do? It’s been an hour since incident and toddler still seems fine?

You do not need to go to a @ e

TheRookie · 30/09/2022 14:06

If he seems fine, I would probably just keep an eye on him. Was he rear or forward facing? If he didn't bang his head or anything, the main thing would be neck injury but if he's walking about and not complaining of anything, it's likely he's fine! Super scary though, hope you're ok!

SheWoreYellow · 30/09/2022 14:07

If he didn’t notice, then it sounds like he was barely affected. No. I wouldn’t need him to be checked over.
Not nice for you both though, hope you can have a cosy rest of the day.

I had similar and turned out dd had whiplash - very mild and no treatment needed but bothered her for a while. I didn’t think to take her at the time it was only when she complained of pain a few days later I took her to hospital - it was many years ago.

Definitely not a&e. Maybe GP will do a check-up for peace of mind?

Dinoteeth · 30/09/2022 14:14

No need to go to A&E if he seems OK.

Just remember to claim your carseat in the accident claim.

Galarunner · 30/09/2022 14:33

Discard and replace the car seat . No need to go to a and e from what you say. Be aware you might feel quite shaky for a while. A near miss involving your child being potentially hurt can take a while to process.

GG1986 · 30/09/2022 14:35

I would maybe call GP for advice.

Sirzy · 30/09/2022 14:38

Make sure you get the insurance company to replace his car seat even if it looks fine.

if your worried can you phone the GP or 111 for advice?

Creatingusernamesismygame · 30/09/2022 14:49

Thank you so much. He was rear facing, in the back of the car. He seems fine, no signs of neck injury so far. Feel so scared. Thank god for child seats and seat belts.

I’m so shaky still. Can’t control it. I’ve never had a car accident, never mind one with my DC in car.

I wouldn't be surprised if 111 say he needs to be seen as they seem to say this for anything relating to very young children.

I'd spare yourself a wait in A&E unless you notice anything at all concerning.

If the bump didn't cause you any injury with a standard seatbelt and forward-facing, then your DS in his rear-facing harnessed seat probably barely felt it. Kids are so well protected in these seats.

TheSandgroper · 30/09/2022 15:20

Yes to replacing the car seat but also the seatbelts - yours and dc’s. They are the bits that took the actual momentum stress.
