VoIP recommendations & help pls

Just picking the MN collective brain to see if anyone can recommend a VoIP provider - long story short, problems with my internet connection have been fixed but at the cost of losing our landline, which we hadn't anticipated or wanted, not least because we don't want to lose our number

We have elderly relatives and do use the landline as we don't have great mobile reception, so I have been told I can port my number out if I can choose a VoIP service quickly. A couple of people have suggested sipgate but I can't get hold of them and they also seem to have just stopped offering their free basic service.

I know I'm going to have to pay for the number porting but I'm hoping to avoid committing to £10/month or similar - lots of providers are offering a service that includes lots of bells and whistles that we won't use (free international minutes, multi-way conference calling, options to have lots of extensions etc) but I can't find a good reliable basic service.

We need to stick with out internet provider and they don't provide a VoIP service, which is why I'm looking here!

Any help would be very gratefully received and appreciated - having spent a couple of weeks without the internet, I wasn't expecting to have to find a VoIP provider at short notice.

voipfone - used them for years, no issues ever and very good value for money - they will also hand-hold you through anything you need to do.

Many thanka @akkakk, that's mreally appreciated and is a great starting point. Off to investigate them now!

Judging by the issues that others have had with this on the Plusnet boards, seems that it could be a really big problem once BT, Openreach and others roll out the changes needed for the digital switchover, as ofcom didn't bother to put in any provision to ensure that those who want to can keep their landline number and their broadband supplier (who may or may not be the same company - and even if they are, might not be able to offer the service) - there's the potential for chaos ahead!
