Will interest rates go up again before december

My fixed mortgage is coming to an end and I will be eligible to switch from the middle of December, is it likely interest rates will go up again before this? I’m trying not to watch the news and it’s going to cost me to much to buy myself out at this time.

probably

Woolandwonder · 29/09/2022 19:16

I'm say almost definitely yes.

Overthebow · 29/09/2022 19:17

Yes, the next meeting where they will raise rates is in November I think.

Very likely !

OxanaVorontsova · 29/09/2022 19:20

Yes

The MCP meet every 6 weeks to decide upon interest rates and I don't see inflation crumbling down within that time so yes !

mynameiscalypso · 29/09/2022 19:22

The next meeting is the start of November. I'd be amazed if they didn't go up. The only question is how much.

Should have read "MPC"

Ilikewinter · 29/09/2022 19:23

100% they will go up

GCAcademic · 29/09/2022 19:23

Yes, and it won't just be by 0.25%.

bellsbuss · 29/09/2022 19:26

I'm expecting at least 1%

Piffpaffpoff · 29/09/2022 19:27

Yes, definitely going up. But you can start looking for a new deal now and even ‘book’ now I think, lined up for when your current deal finishes.

This is useful from Martin Lewis. Mortgage deal running out

Thanks all for your help, trying so hard not to let it worry me but it’s awful isn’t it

Does anyone know how far in advance you can change your mortgage with NatWest, I’m reading conflicting on line 3.5 months and 6 months?

If you have an online account it’s 6 months.

butterflycatcher · 29/09/2022 19:54

Significant rise expected in November and markets will begin pricing this in before the event so I would expect mortgage rates to gradually continue to rise. They don't stay flat inbetween and then go up after the announcement so the sooner you can act the better.

Letsnotargue · 29/09/2022 20:12

I thought it was 6 months if you are remortgaging with a different lender, or 4 months if you are staying with the same one.

Made no sense to me at the time, but both were too long to wait for us so we paid the early buyout which wasn’t too bad, but we were very lucky. We added that onto our mortgage, even so we have already more than broken even now the rates have gone up.

Just wanted to update this, you can change with NatWest online at six months, manages to get a five year deal today and only £4.00 more than my current mortgage, panick over for now!
