(If NT)

Stop playing with bath toys
Not need any help cutting food up
Start using adult sized cutlery
Able to get own breakfast - with no help at all
Make own packed lunch independently
Bath - wash, wash hair, get dried, dressed with no help.

Wipe bum without getting poo up their back 😖

Just wondering.

Stop playing with bath toys- my DS is 7 and he sometimes takes a Lego boat into the bath, dd is 9 and she doesn’t play in the bath anymore
Not need any help cutting food up- I haven’t had to cut up food for about 2 years?
Start using adult sized cutlery- started at about age 4
Able to get own breakfast - with no help at all - age 6/7

Make own packed lunch independently- they could do this now but I like to do it as I see that as my role for now.
Bath - wash, wash hair, get dried, dressed with no help. - age 7 with no intervention whatsoever (other than a reminder here and there when the take too long or get distracted)

You teach them...

formulatingAresponse · 28/09/2022 20:08

My DC never wiped poo up their backs. How bizarre that that would even happen Confused

SpinningFloppa · 28/09/2022 20:09

Hope this isn’t a pool troll... and yeh you teach them obviously 🙄

formulatingAresponse · 28/09/2022 20:12

I can't really remember what age they were re the other things as they just kind of eventually happened, so must have been around the same time as other DC, as I didn't really notice

TheOldLadyOfThreadneedleStreet · 28/09/2022 20:17

Stop playing with bath toys - DS stopped really early around 5 or 6, DD carried on until at secondary school
Not need any help cutting food up - Both were interested in eating and could basically manage from 3 or 4 unless it was difficult food to handle
Start using adult sized cutlery - both loved their kids sets and kept on using them at home until 9 or 10, but used adult cutlery quite happily when out and about from 5 or 6
Able to get own breakfast - with no help at all - both about 6

Make own packed lunch independently - well they both did from time to time once they started secondary, they didn’t need to before this, perhaps they would have been able to
Bath - wash, wash hair, get dried, dressed with no help - DS 8/9, DD has really long thick hair so I did help her with that until she was about 11, otherwise 7/8.

Wipe bum without getting poo up their back 😖4 for both of them

Bemyclementine · 28/09/2022 20:58

Argh no not the poo troll. Should say, ds2 does have tummy troubles. He is the worst offender. He's just so RESISTANT to doing it himself, properly. I do teach them.

Literally everything is practise, practise, practise...

fallfallfall · 28/09/2022 21:17

oh oh oh @Bemyclementine i saw a totally cool tic tok video teaching kids how to to this!! i'll see if i can find it for you :)
my kids are old but toilet trained easily and i certainly had not been wiping their butts beyond 3 if that.
bathed dressed on their own by 4-5, including making their beds before school.
the probably knew how to cut stuff up but i presented food with the meat already cut as i HATE food flying off the plate or fights due to elbows.
as for getting breakfast or lunch well they certainly knew how to feed themselves but the mess was not worth it. i caught my 3yr old standing on a kitchen chair cutting their own bread for toast. toddlers easily got their own yogurt and spoons. but a proper lunch with veggies including clean up?? maybe never while living in the home.

Mariposista · 28/09/2022 21:28

Stop playing with bath toys - we have a shower, not a bath so not an issue.
Not need any help cutting food up - 4
Start using adult sized cutlery - 5/6
Able to get own breakfast - with no help at all - I still help with the toaster as it's high up, but cereal wise, 6

Make own packed lunch independently - even DH is pretty hopeless at this
Bath - wash, wash hair, get dried, dressed with no help. (shower) 6/7

Wipe bum without getting poo up their back 😖
