SEN learning support job interview..

Help!! So I applied for a job at the local college, in their SEN department for the young adults with learning/physical difficulties. Didn't think I'd hear anything back because I have no experience with SEN apart from college work placements 13 years ago! Well, they called today and I've got an interview next week. It's a formal interview, with a "TASK" after. That's fine apart from they don't tell you what the task will be, and there's no preparation needed. This sends my anxiety through the roof as I'm a planner!! Anyone had an interview for a similar role and know what the task could possibly be?! The job role itself will be helping out in the day to day college stuff (I think it's alot of life skills based stuff) but also the personal care side of it too. I currently work as activities coordinator in a care home (have also done care before) but this is quite a different job role. Thanks!! X

I've worked in the education sector (albeit in HR) and whilst I don't know how they interview, I can tell you that the sector is crying out for competent staff and they do struggle to recruit.

Here are a few tips

  • make sure you understand the task, read it carefully before you start undertaking the exercise.
  • the person specification should give you an idea as to the type of skills they are looking for and the task is likely to be based on this.

-read up on safeguarding, as you will be asked about this.

No idea, but I would put my money on it being something to do with communication, probably how would you adapt this lesson/task to make it accessible to the student you are working with, or how would you teach this skill, or deliver this in a tutorial etc.
