So I’m in A&E for the sixth time in a 9 weeks

And they still don’t know what’s wrong with me

I am in constant pain in my stomach area. It’s an intense pressure that can then sort of spasm and throb.

I cannot walk. I cannot sit. I cannot eat meals. Without it hurting.

Today, I couldn’t even lift a glass of drink.

OTC do nothing. I’ve been prescribed buscapan and codeine and that did nothing.

I’ve had an MRI, a CT scan, an ultrasound, two x-rays, various blood tests and urine tests. All are clear.

I am on the waiting list for an endoscopy but that is two months away and I’ve been told by the doctor at A&E to come back everytime it gets worse or in days I can’t cope because it helps me get pushed up the list.

I’m tired. I’m exhausted. I’m sat in the stupid “fit to sit” area and I’m in agony because it hurts to sit.

I’ve been given oramorph but I chucked it up about 10 mins later.

Just saw the junior doctor and she is completely clueless too. Has no idea. She’s gone to speak to her supervisior for an opinion but it looks like I’m going to be sent home to suffer again.

I can wait for diagnoses. That’s not the problem. I just want a decent pain management scheme where I can be a relative pain free 33 year old!!

Well, it’s January, im still in pain, and im still waiting for an endoscopy appointment.

Pain killers are doing fuck all really. They have given me mintec which they said would help. It hasn’t.

I haven’t left the house in months. I physically cannot walk about without pain. I desperately want a scooter but can’t afford one yet.

I have gone down the route of PIP, and was awarded standard mobility rate.

Flowers that's so shit Sad

OhBitchPeas · 09/01/2023 15:03

Oh sheesh I was hoping this was bumped with an update and diagnoses!

Do you know how long the waiting list is?

No. I did ring them up, and was told I’m on the normal list and it could be a while yet. I mentioned that an A&E doctor had escalated it to urgent, so she put me through to the line to talk to someone there. Only I got a message of “there is currently no one available to talk your call. Please call again later” and then a hang up tone.

It took me an hour to get that far so I was feeling really disheartened. I haven’t tried again yet, but I guess I ought to.

I had something similar which came out of nowhere but I was going through a stressful time so I attributed it to that. Bloating, severe stomach cramps, rapid weight loss. Got put on the 2ww cancer pathway and had a colonoscopy and endoscopy on the same day. Diagnosed with diverticulitis which occasionally'flares' but not as bad as that first time. Currently on a waiting list to see a gastro specialist and try to watch what I eat. Cabbage, onions etc set me off with wind and bloating.

Spiralleddown · 09/01/2023 16:50

Does it come on after taking codeine/morphine based medicine?

Orangesandlemons77 · 09/01/2023 17:10

Have you tried something like omeprazole

Soubriquet · 09/01/2023 18:53

Yes I have omeprozle. Have done for years. No the pain doesn’t come after painkillers. It just happens

Is it possible you have an opioid addiction, OP? Chronic stomach pain is not an accident nor an emergency. Is something else going on?

Omg what the hell?????

RedCarsGoFaster · 09/01/2023 18:59

When do you NOT have pain? Would that help with a pattern? Are you noting down how long an attack lasts?

Anything that helps? Being in hot or cold water (swimming pool, hot tub, cold pool?)? Pressure? Tens machine?

Soubriquet · 09/01/2023 19:01

Can’t say what triggers or not. Moving makes it worse. I can’t even enjoy a bath really

And no. I do not have an opioid addiction. Thanks for that Hmm

Two things to check about - adenomyosis and your lymph nodes (mesenteric adenitis). Adenomyosis is similar to endo but much harder to diagnose and is crippling. I had mesenteric adenitis when I was in my 20s and hands down most pain I've ever felt - I passed out from the pain 3 times. Also didn't get diagnosed for ages as they tried to keep insisting i was miscarrying (hadn't had sex in months!) then appendicitis or ovarian cyst (both fine on ultrasound) then IBD.

Namechange600 · 09/01/2023 19:45

Hi OP
so sorry- it sounds awful. I have endometriosis, adenomyosis (plus pcos) and it causes crippling pain. endometriosis was stage 4 and on diaphragm, ureters, bowel, bladder and scattered throughout abdomen (other places too, too many to list). I was housebound until surgery to remove it. (Only took 25 years to be diagnosed 🙄😞)
Also alongside this not unusual to have other issues eg mast cell activation syndrome causing reactions eg to foods and drinks, Ehlers danlos syndrome (hyper mobility), autonomic dysfunction (these affect me too to a greater and lesser degree)
the hardest thing for me was dragging myself out of that situation of being so unwell.. it took a long time. I wish you well xx 😘

Caramac555 · 09/01/2023 20:01

So I'm waiting to have my gallbladder and stones removed, and apparently you can have gallbladder disease with no stones, and presumably a clean ultrasound scan.

so some sort of alternative gallbladder problem perhaps?

Fumnudge · 09/01/2023 20:13

Email your GP surgery, put Read Receipt on too. We've all given up on phones (I work in a GP surgery, the phones are stupidly busy, I tell everyone to email their issue then at least it gets to me and I can action it)

Chronic stomach pain is not an accident nor an emergency. Is something else going on?
Gosh, does that mean the eight hour emergency operation was unnecessary? Next time my Crohns plays up should I stay at home?

Maytodecember · 09/01/2023 20:33

Did they rule out diverticulitis? Can’t imagine an attack could go on this long but another one to rule out. Hope you get answers, and effective treatment, soon.

Soubriquet · 09/01/2023 20:42

I can’t see it being my gall bladder as I’ve had every test possible. The only thing left is the endoscopy.

When I say abdominal pain, I don’t mean lower gut area, though it does radiate there. I mean my actual stomach

I sometimes have gastritis which sounds similar to your symptoms. It was diagnosed by endoscope and I was put on a proton pump inhibitor for a month to settle it initially. These days I can feel it coming on (and know when I've hit too many triggers) and take double doses of gaviscon extra to minimise the impact. It works about half the time, otherwise I just have to ride it out, usually over about 12 hours. Weirdly, massaging right into my stomach, pressing into the pain, sometimes helps alleviate it. I hope you get an answer soon.

MuggleMe · 10/01/2023 14:02

Is there no one who can help you go private? It's appalling!

UnknownElement · 10/01/2023 14:22

My friend saw her GP with severe stomach pain but not as bad as yours and had an endoscopy within 2 weeks just before Christmas. My sister suffered a bit like you, took months and it was diverticulitis.

Same health authority, I wondered why there was such a difference in how long it took and the thing that stuck out for me is my sister is very timid and my friend is very confident.

lljkk · 10/02/2024 08:08

What happened, @Soubriquet , did you ever get better? x fingers for you.
