Thrust / cystitis symptoms before period?

It started maybe about 6 months ago, but basically for the few days before my period is due, I get a weird dull pain down there.

It doesn’t hurt to pee, but afterwards there is just a dull and really uncomfortable pain. For example, if I push my buttocks out like I would be pushing out a poo (sorry for the description!), there is pain there.

I try to flush it out with water but it doesn’t work. Then, when I get my period, it seems to go.

Would you say this is normal and are there any treatments available?

It could be because oestrogen levels drop before your period. This can cause atrophy symptoms. How old are you? Your GP may prescribe local oestrogen cream, Ovestin.

Meanwhile you could try a lubricant in case the area is dry eg Yes

I think I get something similar but really worried now with PPs reply about atrophy 😬

I have the mirena coil but have random periods. I need to take notice of when this happens but I get the feeling that I have cystitis in that I get a weird dull ache / pain as if I need to wee and after I've weed but I don't have stinging whilst weeing. I also get feelings of thrush.

Neither come to anything and seem to go after a couple of days.

Atrophy is only the result of low oestrogen. It is manageable with local oestrogen cream or pessaries. It’s not an awful diagnosis, but can be very uncomfortable if not treated. Also, lots of doctors don’t seem to be adequately aware of it or the solution so many women are left suffering and not knowing why.

I’m not an HCP, this is just a suggestion based on the timing.

Thanks @SparklingLime it's actually really interesting and has crossed my mind previously (probably why I'm worried!).
