People who live in upstairs flats, How do you do this??

When I moved into my upstairs flat (own front door, stairs behind it leading to my landing) I had a cooker, fridge and washing machine delivered, they brought them upstairs and plumbed the washing machine in etc.

I have recently decorated all through and it's time for new kitchen white goods, Everywhere I have tried so far will not deliver upstairs and will deliver to front door downstairs only, They also will not take my old ones away.

Just want to add I'm disabled with no family to help, It's just me. Also this is the first time I have lived alone (with ex since I was 18, 40 now) so trying to figure everything out as I go along. I feel stupid for asking! How do I get the old stuff downstairs and the new stuff upstairs? Is this something a man with a van would do if I paid them extra for doing it? If not who would?

Yes you can pay someone

AlannaOfTrebond · 27/09/2022 17:37

Have you tried AO (Appliances Online)? I'm pretty sure they offer those services.

NuffSaidSam · 27/09/2022 17:39

AO deliver and take stuff away, I think you have to pay extra for a first floor delivery, but they will do it. Or, a handy man type person or removals company.

I was just coming on to also say AO. They were brilliant with our fridge freezer as we live downstairs and they had to take it out of the box to manhandle it down two really tight twisting staircases, and round an incredibly tight corner, and also took the old fridge freezer away away. (at one point they were having to lift it over a banister sideways and then pivot (pivot!) it, to get it down to the next flight of stairs).

I've always managed to get 2 man delivery and recycling with wherever I've bought from - Argos/Currys/AO/Very etc.

Teenyliving · 27/09/2022 17:46

I just had all white goods from curry’s who do all that - you have to pay but not a problem to get all done!

OneRingToRuleThemAll · 27/09/2022 17:48

I live in a first floor flat, on the main road. Never had a problem with deliveries, or with having a whole new kitchen & bathroom fitted.

Currys happily carried my tumble dryer down the stairs to my flat and took my old one too

RewildingAmbridge · 27/09/2022 17:51

Currys just delivered our new dishwasher, downstairs but back of the house and an old house so up and down various steps, they also took the old one and all the packaging for the new one. We could've had it fitted but there was a charge and DH said he could do it

I got my range cooker delivered to my lovely downstairs neighbour, and pais a removal company to move it upstairs. It cost me £50 just before lockdown. They sent a four man crew and it took them about two minutes to do. The washing machine company the fridge company, the wardrobe company and the mattress company were all prepared to deliver upstairs.

Same. I live in a ground floor flat now, but previously lived two floors up (Victorian so each floor was quite high!). Whilst just about every delivery person made some sort of comment about there being a lot of stairs, we never had a problem getting white goods delivered. I don't envy the two men who had to lug my (very heavy) old washing machine down the stairs when they delivered a replacement, though!

NeverDropYourMooncup · 27/09/2022 18:24

Definitely AO. Curry's do it as well, but I'd never use them because of how shit the customer lack of service and delivery times are.

CherryRipe1 · 27/09/2022 18:28

As others have said AO, Curry's, Argos. From memory John Lewis were pretty good too. It costs a bit more but solves the problem. Just choose the recycling WEEE options and installation.
