Do you use Sounds to put your children to sleep?

Hi all,

Bit of a backstory, My partner and I have been using sounds (water/white noise etc) to put our little one to sleep every night since he was around 3 months. I know that some parents don't approve of this method but before we used the sounds he was basically up all night and we had little time for sleep or each other.

We are a good few months on now and the sounds are still essential for our little boy to get a solid nights sleep without waking up every 20 mins. we've tried everything to get the sounds out of the sleeping routine but to no avail. For now its a necessary evil.

I'm obviously trying to be proactive in terms of keeping low sound volume and noises that are as soft as possible but I was wondering if any other parents out there have a constructive opinion on what we should be looking for in terms of sounds that have minimum impact on his sleep quality or REM?

DS is 2.5, we use an Ocean noise to drown out the sound of the neighbours dog barking all night long - I have 0 concerns about it, its a soft sound and not at all loud.

What is your worry?

We use white noise with our 10m old and no plans to change it. We have adult friends who sleep with white noise at night - it's not like a dummy that necessarily needs to be phased out.

A lot of sleep experts recommend white noise for children. We have used it with ours since day 1 and have no intentions of stopping. Our DD has a little machine that plays the noise all night and if we are ever away we can use an app. I think it's really useful in blocking out noise especially at times of year like fireworks night or if you have noisy neighbours. We are due our second soon and I'm very glad our first is used to sleeping with white noise as she'll definitely be needing it soon!
