Cleaning items for sale

Those who sell things on vinted/Facebook etc, do you clean the items before selling?

I've purchased a few things recently (mainly baby items) which have been filthy tbh, clearly not even wiped over and it seems a bit lazy to me! I'd never sell something really obviously dirty, when I've sold items I've always washed/disinfected before they've come to collect.

Of course I will always clean second hand items myself when I get them anyway but it's shocked me how dirty some things are! Maybe my standards are too high 😅

My stuff will always be clean but you're right some people leave stuff very gross, which is odd when you think how often most people put a wash on anyway it's not hard to stick something in.

I wouldn't dream of sending something out to a buyer without it being washed & dried, and pressed, too, if it needed it.

Grazka · 27/09/2022 15:46

Wouldn't even cross my mind to send something to the buyer without washing it first.

Always make sure anything I sell or gift is freshly cleaned, I'd be mortified otherwise! Doesn't take much effort to spray and wipe something or to give it a quick wash.

A friend kindly offered me a baby walker/activity centre thing when my son was little. I went to collect and she dragged it out of the garage and said "it's a bit dusty" which was absolutely no problem at all. It was evening so couldn't see it clearly anyway so assumed it would be ok. Got it home and into the light and after a closer look saw it had brown grime and congealed food all over the little buttons and mirrors and toys etc. The seat part was all brown and smelly round the area the legs would go through. She was kind and I felt bad but no way was I going to use it.

Maybe I'm buying from the wrong people then 😂 I agree though that I would be embarrassed to send something with obviously food/stains/grime on it! I write this after spending the last 45 minutes deep cleaning a very gross playpen I've just bought! Confused

Its shocking isn't it how some people have no shame in selling or donating stuff that is filthy and there's no excuse for it really as all it takes is a wipe down or a wash. 😑

I bought the most beautiful designer jacket from Vestiaire last week. As soon as I opened the box, I got a whiff of sweat. When I took it out, it absolutely stank of BO. There were sweat marks around the armpit. The entire jacket must have been baked in it. It was vile. Vestiaire were kind enough to allow me to return it. It’s a bitch buying stuff from Europe now with the duty. There was no way I was keeping it. PLEASE clean clothes before selling.

Applesandraspberries · 30/09/2022 07:36

That's totally disgusting @Shitfather how awful 😖

Teadrinkingmumofone · 30/09/2022 07:39

It's like when people sell something on Facebook and say 'just needs a clean'. Why not clean it first?! I don't get it!

Why are people so lazy not cleaning items, even before I take stuff to my local Charity shop I wash if needed and always iron them.
