Does anyone else struggle with fixation?

As a child I'd do it for years at a time. More like long term interests. As an adult I have short bursts of phases

I'm currently very absorbed in Fred and Rose West Confused know far too much, watched every document and podcast etc about it all. For some reason I heard about them, looked them up and then became absorbed by the information

Similar happened when the Queen was dying. Sudden very intense interest in the royal family

Not sure why I do this. It's very distracting and I often can't think of anything else for days whilst I'm in this hype focused mode

I do that with progs I’m currently binging The Crown and loving it (so late to that party!!), I watched Killing Eve over the space of a few days
I also do this with food from 1st Sept until last Friday I had quiche and salad every lunch - now I can’t bear too look t quiche or salad

Oh I do.
I get very passionate about something for a while, then go off the boil.
Variety of interests is good, yes?

Yes I have this! But it turns out I’m autistic which I only discovered last year. It makes so much more sense to me now to realise why I am the way I am.

I think you can 'collect' information in the same way you can collect material goods. There are 4documentaries, 1 historical drama, books, articles etc on a subject I am interested in? Good! I will collect them all in my notebook, listing them all and ticking them off.

Same with actors I like. I watched everything Martin Freeman was in after the hobbit. All of the old TV sitcoms, the office (of course) but sherlock had benedict cumberbatch in and I'm not interested in 'collecting' him at all. And so, my fixation with Martin freeman ended.
I was very upset when he was in the Grinch and I begrudgingly wat he'd it at the cinema as a Christmas activity with my children. This is an odd one because it is a Christmas collection. Not the same thing at all.

it's not annoying though.
Do you get the same feeling with hobbies? Or is it just learning about different people or subjects of interest?
Did you do really well at school? or really well in subjects you were interested in?

I can be like this a bit. I also do it with food. I had beans on toast with gherkins every morning for three months. Best thing ever. Then one day just had no interest in it anymore. The same happened with cantaloupe melon and Parma ham. Then with bagels and herb cream cheese 😂😂

Isn’t this just normal curiosity?

I do this - I wouldn’t call it ‘fixated’, though.

Maybe what you’re describing is a bit more full-on than what I do, but yes, absolutely - something happens, or I encounter something, and then I’m curious to learn more, and off I go.

It's a common thing for people with adhd.

It's one of the differences to asd, fixations come & go.

I'm used to it but try to mitigate the expense!

I definitely do this. The last two days I have been obsessed with the budget and I couldn't listen to anything else if it wasn't about it.
