When did you get rid of the pushchair/buggy?

We’ve used the same jogging buggy with both DCs. They are now almost 2 and 4. I can’t remember the last time we used it. We have a crappy £10 secondhand stroller that lives in the back of the van and occasionally we throw DD2 in to keep her contained in a shop, but even that is really uncommon.

Is it mad to get rid of the ‘proper’ pushchair with DD still being quite small?

Keep it. You never know if an accident might happen ;)

DC2 was 5. We used it regularly until she was 4.5 and kept it until she really didn't fit any more. I had no car so needed to be able to get her to the doctor when she was ill, do the shopping, get to the bus etc.

We got rid of our Out ‘n’ About buggy single when Dc4 was 2. As we rarely used it as he would scoot, balance bike or walk. Dh or I would have to put him on our shoulders if we went on longer walks when he tired. Couldn’t bare to look at it any longer in the shed.

Kept ours as long as possible as walked everywhere. I guess if you are ever without a car for any reason you might want it?

My DS was 3. We’d used it on a city break and he fell asleep in it twice for the first time in months, BUT my DD was 5 and takes after me and if it was there wanted to go in it too. So part of what pushed us to get rid of it was that they just used to squabble over it anyway! Plus we sold at a time when the particular pushchair we had was hard to get hold of so got back exactly what we paid for it new. I’ve not regretted getting rid of it though. Only once, at legoland, did we feel we needed one and we just hired one of their doubles. I personally miss having somewhere to dump all the stuff on days out though- ruck sacks get heavy!!

This is what we're going. DS is nearly 3 and the only people I know with children a similar age to him that have got rid of the pushchair all drive everywhere.

He likes to use his balance bike and is happy to walk but honestly it's so much easier if you have to be somewhere at a specific time to use the pushchair.

Plus I'm not quite sure I'm ready to have to lug the weekly food shop a child and their bike home from the shop without the aid of buggy clips and basket just yet. Grin

We occasionally used it until DD2 was 4. But we did a lot of journeys where it wasn't quite worth taking the car but tiring for a little one. (Example... used to take DD1 to Youth club (1 mile, then dd2 straight to ballet (0.5 mile), then 30mins later DD2 home from ballet (0.75mile) only to go back to the Youth club to get DD1 30 mins later, with DD2 if DH not home from work. That was over 4 miles total, but not worth driving g on any trip. Mostly done by cargo bike, but sometimes had to walk)

The winter after they turned 4. A jogger pushchair is a lifeaver when you're in a rush / they're whingy or poorly / weather is bad / shopping / big day out.
My dcs are teens and I still miss the big buggy and being hands free.

BryceQuinlanTheFirst · 26/09/2022 07:02

I live in London and we don't drive so we use it loads still, son is 3.5

BakewellGin1 · 26/09/2022 07:04

DS walked at 1 and by 2 kicked up a fuss going in. He would rather walk. As per previous poster I sold when it was hard ti get hold of his limited edition cosatto and got a good price for it. I havnt missed it and it freed up much needed car boot space for us.

megletthesecond · 26/09/2022 07:04

*the spring after they turned 4 I mean. You don't want to be walking slowly in winter.

ThreeRingCircus · 26/09/2022 08:01

DD2 is 3.5 and we still use it occasionally. I would say we're nearly there with being able to get rid of it but sometimes it's invaluable (e.g containing her if we're walking round lots of shops and I need to carry a lot of stuff back home.) I probably haven't used it with her for a month but will be today as I need to get to an appointment this morning and it's more practical to walk but if I need to get there at a certain time it's still easier to put her in the buggy than stop/start walk with her.

I'd say definitely by 4 it'll be gone.

DS is 6. Next year we're going on a big holiday and I plan to get rid of it after that. I'll need the buggy for lots of walking and carrying my bags, water bottles etc.

We only use the buggy for holidays and when DS is sick (today).
