Is anyone becoming more sensitive in their old age?

I've always been sensitive, overly so at times, but increasingly I've found that I just can't bear reading books that involve a lot of graphic suffering. Animal suffering in particular has always been unbearable for me but I've been trying to read what is apparently an excellent book and I don't think I can continue with the book because of the descriptions of starving children.

Is anyone becoming a complete wuss as they get older?

Yes - in middle age I can no longer watch or read anything which involves people suffering.

My ds thinks I watch only boring films but I love the films I watch! I don’t understand why a lot of the stuff he watches has to have gritty violence in it of some kind.

Is this going to be another thread where the op reveals that she considers "old age" to be anyone over 30?

I think suffering becomes less abstract as we get older so we react differently depending on our life experiences.

Always been sensitive but yes getting more so with each year. Any sort of suffering or even just seeing an old person by themselves, seeing a cat near a busy road everything sets me off. I recently stopped to let a bird cross the road - it looked like a pheasant - waited for ages and turned out to be a plastic bag - that is how bad I am.

Nope. I'm 38 and I don't think I'm old but I am getting older and more sensitive with each year.

That's so sweet. I actually love you for that. If only more people were like you, there'd be fewer dead animals(and plastic bags) on the road.

Questionaboutjoboffer Glad to see that I'm not alone in this. Ty for replying.

Oh yes.
I cannot bear suffering.
I just can't.
As I've got older I have become much more fragile in that I feel like I'm running out of space for where to compartmentalise things.
