Symptoms and feel stupid asking but should I go to gp?

So I have been having some symptoms for a while and I don’t want to waste the doctors time if it’s nothing and be told off by them !

I feel really stupid asking but don’t have anyone else to talk to about this 😕
symptoms are:
needing to pee constantly but no pain so I don’t think it’s an infection but has been going on a couple of months at least and waking me in the night

Dizzy spells/feeling faint regularly for no apparent reason

Pins and needles in my feet

tiredness constantly like I can’t ever wake up feeling refreshed but this has been going on for ages and when I mentioned it about a year ago to a go at a coil appointment they said it was just a sign of a busy life?!

hungry all the time (but could be just greedy lol)

So it might sound really stupid but would you make an appointment with these symptoms as while there annoying I can cope at the moment (I get real anxiety when it comes to thinking I might be unwell normally I’m sane promise!!)

Could you ask your pharmacist to give you a blood test for T2 diabetes?

Would that be better than gp might be quicker I suppose ?

I think they'll have to do a urine test and / or a blood test. If you've got a bottle for urine collection, you could take one along.

You can also buy Siemens dipsticks for testing urine at home, but you probably don't have them.

Have you had your thyroid checked? Do you have a racing heart or feel anxious?

I have an overactive thyroid ( graves disease) and amongst other symptoms I needed to wee much more! I was also incredibly fatigued and starving all the time.

eleanorsmellstrop · 25/09/2022 15:20

I had these symptoms and was given a diabetes test but it turned out to be anaemia, although I'm not sure how common these symptoms are.

loislovesstewie · 25/09/2022 15:21

You don't need family history to get diabetes (either type) unfortunately. My late DH had t2 and I have an adult child with t1. Both out of the blue, absolutely no one else in the family with either. You can buy really cheap blood sugar meters from any chemist, but that might not be the way to go,as it might scare you or give a sense of false security. I test myself every now and then, but that is because I am used to doing tests and it wouldn't freak me out.

Op please make an appointment urgently. I have these symptoms went on for months.
Eventually had blood tests, now I have 2 tests booked on Tuesday. Dr thinks it is bowel cancer. The 2 camera tests will determine if it is cancer.

I have no blood in stools but still blood tests show high possible that I have a tumour

Please op go to gp urgently. I don't want alarm you but I wish I had gone to GP months ago. Sending you best wishes xx

Dizzy spells/feeling faint regularly for no apparent reason
Pins and needles in my feet

I’d actually be thinking B12 deficiency or thyroid issues because I had these symptoms with both of these conditions.

someone mentioned thyroid to me in real life. Do they check for all these things with the same blood test ?

Get it investigated OP. Then you won't have the worry of wondering what it is. Good luck. 🙂

loislovesstewie · 25/09/2022 18:52

My late DH did have his thyroid and all sorts of other checks when he was diagnosed with t2. I think that he was always borderline with having issues and the GP asked for those checks too. I think that they will be keen to rule it out.

Twirlywirly22 · 03/10/2022 22:09

So update went to go today
he couldn’t have seemed less interested !!
when I asked about diabetes he said well you would have lost lots of weight so that’s into likely ??
he did a finger prick test thing and said it was fine 7.5 I think ?!
he said probably anemia and said to book in with the healthcare assistant for a blood test for anemia which is on fri. So no further forward I think!

My Dd had those symptoms, she had a B12 deficiency

whereamu · 03/10/2022 22:22

Well done on going to the gp.
You have ruled out diabetics and got another check booked which is great.
Ask for full blood tests including thyroid etc (maybe Google what to ask for). Maybe ring gp reception and warn them in advance.
Ask nurse to check blood pressure while you are there too.

ReeDeeHee · 03/10/2022 22:51

Yes, you should go to the GP. You won't be wasting time at all. They are there to diagnose us.
