Do you eat sourdough bread?

I just bought some and it doesn’t do anything for me taste wise (very dry) but it’s supposed to be healthier with less gluten. Is it worth the extra expense?

It’s not as simple as that, it’s a complex process- if you are genuinely starting from scratch it takes weeks to even get a viable starter going (though you can get starter from another baker if they already have one). The actual baking doesn’t work great in a home oven though you can do ok baking inside a large cast iron or stoneware casserole with a lid. Even then it is a craft that you have to learn through study, trial, and error, not something you get right the first time.

If you genuinely are interested I recommend the book “Tartine Bread”

Sorry don’t know what happened to my quote, was responding to the pp who asked for a recipe.

I eat the sourdough bread that I make myself, it’s amazing. It’s certainly not dry.

I get why people don’t like the taste, so don’t eat it!

I love sourdough - I’m happy to pay extra just for the taste, but I definitely do notice that it’s good for my digestion. I don’t think it’s anything to do with gluten content but apparently it’s great for your gut bacteria.

Yes, i hated it when I tried it years ago, but now I make my own and I LOVE it. Only toasted tho, it's too chewy and hard otherwise. I find myself craving it when I run out (and they get annoyed with myself that I haven't fed Bernard my starter, and have to wait to bake it 😂)
