Sainsbury's changing rooms closed?

PreferAnimals · 25/09/2022 00:15

Does anyone know why Sainsbury's have permanently closed changing rooms since Covid? I used to get a few bits for work, but I'm not buying without trying and as I live a good few miles from my local store it's a faff taking it home to try on the having to drive back and return if not right. Surely closing changing rooms is damaging sales?

When I asked in Asda they said it was to use the space in a different way.
I know people who buy, try on in toilets and then return.
im relaky close by so I can buy and return but it’s more hassle

HailAdrian · 25/09/2022 10:58

Lazy.

purpleme12 · 25/09/2022 11:02

Asda at ours has them open again. It took forever to do that though after COVID and I believe the toilets are still closed there
But Sainsbury's have closed them

I would rather have toilets than changing rooms. Supermarket toilets are a lifeline when so few public toilets exist.

I guess they get away with the toilets because there are other toilets really near where we are

Our nearest Sainsbury’s have all closed their changing rooms permanently. They’ve taken away the fresh meat, fish and cheese counters permanently too. There’s less choice, fewer staff and they’re forever changing the layout.

tectonicplates · 25/09/2022 11:35

Actually, I'd go as far as to say that if a shop sells clothing, it should be a legal requirement to provide a changing room.

Seeline · 25/09/2022 11:44

I think Sainsbury's will have customers getting the stock out soon! They seem to be doing everything they can to stop having to employ anyone. Ours has no installed larger self service tills so that you can do an entire trolley load - well you can't, because the system is crap and you still need someone to approve using your own bags, clearing every third item, clearing anything that is age restricted etc, and our store has 1 person supervising about 12 tills.
Most people resolutely queue for the 2 remaining staffed checkouts.

TroysMammy · 25/09/2022 11:46

I messaged Sainsbury's a while ago regarding this. They replied that some changing rooms will be reopening but not at every branch. Luckily the one at mine was reopened.

TroysMammy · 25/09/2022 11:48

However the cafe is closed.

CircleofWillis · 25/09/2022 12:13

I have just read the thread about that poor young woman who was traumatized by predatory men in unisex changing rooms in Primark.

I wonder if supermarkets are keeping changing rooms closed to avoid the whole gender minefield clothing shops are currently navigating.

Christ , can you imagine trying things on in a public loo , gross. That has put me off supermarket clothing completely now

Yes, I can imagine, because I did this. I live a good few miles from my local Sainsbury's so its easier and cheaper for me to quickly try on in the ladies loo's and return if no good. I don't dip them in the toilet water though - I think you're being a tad dramatic 😅

Hmm I never thought of that, you could be right! Who is actually a female nowadays is a bit of a minefield 🤪

Lazy.

Who is lazy?
If your comment refers to me, I'm not lazy, but I live nowhere near the store, and with the cost of fuel I don't think I should have to pay and use my own fuel just to try clothes on. Its the stores loss, they are missing out on sales.

I’ve tried clothes on in the last 2 months in 2 different Sainsburys, so they’re clearly not all closed.

The one closest to me is one of the superstores so I'm surprised. Good that they haven't closed them all. Very random tho.

They let you try on in the toilets here. I live 2 mins away on foot so it's a non issue for me anyway

balalake · 25/09/2022 17:17

I expect it is to save staffing cost, with the by-product that it will mean less theft (let's not diminish it by calling it shoplifting) and any issues such as men 'accidentally' going into a changing room being used by a woman.

Doubleraspberry · 25/09/2022 17:22

The changing rooms in mine are just two largish solid cubicles standing separately. So no issues about who is in them.

bruce43mydog · 25/09/2022 17:23

My local sainsburys reopened the changeing rooms and they remain open.

akabluebell · 25/09/2022 17:25

Sainsburys fitting room at Heyford Hill Oxford are open. I used them Friday.

Don't yours have locks on the inside of the door?

Sunshineandrainbow · 25/09/2022 17:26

My store changing rooms are shut, I like to try on before I buy so have stopped buying from there.

QuillBill · 25/09/2022 17:29

It's cameras underneath the changing room sides that are the issue. And toilets.

LettuceJones · 25/09/2022 17:30

Mine have never reopened either. I used to get all my shirts for work there. I can't be bothered to try stuff on at home and then take them back.
