Recent conversations/experiences. People said they had delayed putting an animal to sleep as they "just couldn't face it". OK I sympathise but I've had to pull myself together and make brave decisions for my animals when it's their time. Said people are thinking about getting a new puppy (to go alongside their naughty children) Another acquaintance admits she got a rabbit, the kids ignored it then she rehomed it and bought them a puppy instead.
It got me thinking - if you are a vet or a vet nurse or receptionist, how do you deal with irresponsible owners? I mean presumably the worst owners aren't bringing their pets in at all but how do you deal (emotionally/practically) with folk eg not training their dogs properly or not following your medical advice? Are you not tempted to confiscate pets sometimes?!!! Do you ever refuse to put an animal to sleep when the owner just doesn't want to pay the bill for treatment?
Along these lines - are those working in pet shops ever reluctant to sell pets to certain folk?! I'd want everyone to sit an exam and prove themselves before I'd even sell them a hamster!
And rescue centres - presumably you see people giving pets up "because DC are allergic" when actually they cba anymore. Are you just glad they bring them in rather than dumping them somewhere?
