Longhaul flight- what to wear?

Advice on what to wear for long haul flight. Going to US so will be hot when I get off. Thinking comfy lightweight trousers?? Tshirt and hoody, but will have to find some trousers- any recommendations?

I would say add a scarf because sometimes, it gets very cold. Take also a change of clothes in your carry on. I once say an hostess tripping and dropping an entire tray of drinks on a passenger two rows in front of me and that poor passengers was drenched and patting her clothes with paper towels was the only thing she could do. I never used to have a change for me, only for the kids, but since witnessing that, you bet I have one for me.

Cheap leggings, t shirt and comfy hoody are my long haul go to. It’s not worth being uncomfortable for so long!

We are flying long haul on Tuesday into Atlanta, my travel outfit is M&S tapered ankle grazer trousers with a drawstring waist ( don't judge me, comfort is key!) AND they have pockets! They are a polyester/viscose/elastane mix so comfy, smart and doesn't crease, so I don't feel totally sleepy after a 9 hour flight.
Cashmere hoodie, short sleeve t shirt and leather slip on loafers.

Black leggings, a small top, jacket or jumper and trainers.

Jeggings, oversized T-shirt and loose wraparound cardigan.

I used to (before COVID) travel long haul all the time. I literally just wore whatever I’d normally wear at home with some layers: jeans and top/t-shirt with cardigan.

Anything very stretchy, tracksuit over teashirt is ideal, planes can be very cold.
Shoes that will fit after your feet expand at high altitude so maybe sandals or flip flops but take warm socks for the flight.

GreenManalishi · 24/09/2022 21:25

Not a jumpsuit or all in one, otherwise comfort is king, layers so you can strip off, slip on shoes that can slide off and on easily, scarf and socks as temps fluctuate. Moisturiser and eye drops, I dehydrate like a prune long haul!

im going long haul in a few weeks and weather will be slightly warmer than here and im planning on wearing leggings vest top and a oversize light jumper (with a jacket leaving scotland) and trainers

I know long haul as 27+hrs, so US isn't too bad in comparison 😂

I always take a light pashmina/large scarf. It can be worn as a scarf, or wrapped around the shoulders on the flight as an extra layer, but not too thick to stuff into a backpack. It also covers the fact I remove my bra and no one wants to see that! 😆

I take a pair of those thin, hotel type slippers and a pair of woolly/travel socks. Some airlines provide the socks, but not all. I take my regular shoes/socks off, and put on the woolly ones and slippers when I get on board. Plane toilet floors are always covered in suspicious fluids- so I never go bare foot or just in socks to the loos!!!

I'd wear or take a t-shirt/ short sleeved top to wear on arrival- but wear layers on the flight. Depending if a day or night flight- I often get cold in a plane. If you are arriving early morning or evening, it likely won't be that hot before you get to the hotel.

I wear sports leggings, long vest, comfy bra, and a hoody. Trainers and socks. I pack a spare vest in hand luggage. I also take off all my make up as soon as possible, slather loads of moisturiser on. Before we start to land I have a wash - take a flannel in hand luggage too - fresh deodorant, fresh vest, fresh make up, clean teeth.

Layers are always good when flying. Fleece or hoodie with leggings. T-shirt underneath. If you stop moving and sit down on an aircraft, once they put the ac on, you may get cold.

Justleaveitblankthen · 24/09/2022 21:36

What time of day is your departure and arrival?

Silverbirch2 · 24/09/2022 21:48

@Justleaveitblankthen midday flight from UK to Atlanta so arrive I think about 6pm?

Thanks all, great advice. I forgot how coldplabes can be so good reminder!

Very comfortable layers. I’m usually cold on planes so invariably take a warm jumper, but coming back from the US last week - night flight - it was very warm in the cabin.

Sooverthisnow · 24/09/2022 21:59

Definitely take a scarf- a pashmina or alternatively heavy cotton which will be warm if you need it.
