Having the heating on makes me feel unwell?

I've only just realised it's heating that does it!

My MIL's house is always very warm, she has the heating on constantly. My Nan does too

It seems to give me a runny nose? I can't really describe what I mean by that, but it's like things feel quite 'raw' in my nose if the heating is on?

I don't really know how to explain it

I had the heating on for the first time in this house today, baby not well, and my gosh my nose seems to suffer

Has anyone else had similar?

THAT SHOULD SAY FUNNY NOSE, not runny nose!

It doesn't give me a runny nose - it just feels sore and raw. I can't really describe it

I know exactly what you mean. I hate it too. Would rather snuggle under a blanket in a cold room than have the room itself warm. Somehow my fuel bill is still ridiculously high though!

Itsnotalwaysme · 24/09/2022 16:23

What kind of heating systems? Many years ago my mum told me something about storage heaters making people feel the same as you have described and told me to place a bowl of water underneath those types of heaters. Something about them drying out the air?

JohnsShirt · 24/09/2022 16:24

Not heating, but air con makes me feel really unwell.

LadybirdsAreNeverHappy · 24/09/2022 16:25

Maybe try a humidifier if possible.

ImNotGreta · 24/09/2022 16:27

Is it ducted air? That can make the air very dry.

I don’t like the ‘fakeness’ of heating. I prefer to exist in a cool, natural temperature and use blankets. Love a real fire though. My MIL wants the heating on in early and late summer and it just makes me feel dreadful.

Lawazzalawoo · 24/09/2022 16:28

Dry air. Maybe you need a humidifier like people suggested.

Also make sure you have a carbon monoxide alarm.

Pixiedust1234 · 24/09/2022 16:28

High heat and air con make me feel unable to breath which makes shopping very uncomfortable. Medium heat is fine (where you wear jumpers midwinter) but the hot settings where people live in tshirts etc, no thanks

I don't find winter cool or natural, I find it bloody freezing!

Bu2 · 24/09/2022 16:39

I find it dries out my nose a lot, I use a humidifier at night and find it really helps.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 24/09/2022 16:46

A cool natural temperature round me can be -6. I don’t want to exist in that.

I get the dry nose, but l still like being warm with the heating on. Pop a bowl of water under the radiators. That will humidify the atmosphere.

Wiseflower · 24/09/2022 16:46

Radiators hold a lot of dust. Turning them on can release the dust particles. You can get radiator brushes to clean them out, vacuum the dust debris too.

A window should be open a crack to allow air to circulate too. No good being boxed in with no fresh air. You won;t be losing much heat if a top window is left slightly open.

Sil has the house at 25 degrees. I feel hungover every time I'm there

mackthepony · 24/09/2022 16:48

but it's like things feel quite 'raw' in my nose if the heating is on?^

It's the dryness
