Washing machine walking across the floor and making a hell of a racket! How to stop this??

Never had this before! In all my years of owning washing machines! Scared the bloody life out of me; went into the kitchen to find the machine walking out of it's special little hole and legging it across the bloody kitchen. Totally panicked and could only think to turn it off at the wall. Just turned it back on again and it's started up the wash again but no idea what it'll do when the spin starts again.

It's new machine, and this is probably my third thread about washing machines!

I've done two washes before this one, both fine. Can confirm that transit bolts have definitely be removed (this was a concern on a previous thread) so...can anyone give me any ideas on why this might have happened? I have checked online and it says something about making sure it's an even load - but what exactly IS an even load? Sorry if that's a question with an obvious answer to many.

The feet are uneven. You need to adjust them until it's level.

This brings back memories! My parents one did that in the 80s. We'd come in and find it like a dog straining at the lease at the end of the plug. 🤣

I think my dad put a big rock at the front two feet until eventually it gave up the ghost. It was about 15 years old by that point. I remember the excitement when the new one had a little window in and you loaded it at the front. 🤣

MikeWozniaksMoustache · 23/09/2022 21:53

Ours did this. Turned out the concrete in the machine had all cracked and the entire thing was knackered.

LIZS · 23/09/2022 21:58

Rubber mat or carpet off-cut underneath and check it is level. Are you overfilling it?

Wotcha23 · 23/09/2022 22:06

Check the installation instructions. We had this and there were some fittings that needed removing.

Aquamarine1029 · 23/09/2022 22:10

Your machine isn't balanced properly. You need to balance it.

stevalnamechanger · 23/09/2022 22:12

I have a rubber mat

MaryGubbins · 23/09/2022 22:12

there are clips for transportation which need taking off

Mxflamingnoravera · 23/09/2022 22:16

I'm with the concrete block is broken. If it's new it's still under guarantee if it's older you may have to pay, but you need a washing machine repair person to look at it. It could be the legs not balanced, it could be transport bolts not removed, it could be a broken weight, it could be the way you load the machine. You need a washing machine specialist to look at it. (Who unpacked it and plumbed it in?- was it a washing machine person or a plumber, or a mate/you?- this could be the problem if it was plumbed in without removing the transit bolts etc). Good luck . I had the same problem, the manufacturer tried to blame the plumber who plumbed it in- suggested he'd not removed the transit bolts. I got the manufactures engineer to come out and made him see the problem, not just by running a simple cycle but running a cycle on spin with towels- then he could see the problem and admitted it was faulty. I got a replacement under the guarantee.

NiceTwin · 23/09/2022 22:20

Look at the back, there should be 4 bolts that need removing. They prevent movement when being transported.
If left on, they prevent the absorption on the vibration when spinning which us why the whole machine is walking.
Take a look at the instructions.

PunishmentRoundupWithJoon · 23/09/2022 22:31

No, the bolts are gone. They were removed when it was installed. What I can't understand it why the previous two washes were absolutely fine.

Perhaps I did overload it, though the programmed stated that for this cycle it could take the full 9kg. Will look at levelling it and other suggestions.

Also, can't work out how to abandon cycle! Turned it off a the wall but when turned on again it just goes back to where it left off. Well, actually no, it goes back to way earlier in the cycle.

Bloody, bloody, bloody hell.

I've had this issue. Try using a lower spin cycle i.e. 800 instead of 1000.

Ponderingwindow · 23/09/2022 22:39

Unbalanced loads often have one large item like a comforter or something heavy, perhaps a bath mat. If you are just doing regular laundry, it’s not likely to be unbalanced.

I can cancel mine by holding down the power button on the front of the machine (not the start button you use to make it start the cycle, but one which turns the controls on). I appreciate all machines are different but just in case.

You could also Google ‘how to cancel programme + make and model of machine’ if you don’t have anything useful in the manual.

She's right. I had the very same problem until I adjusted the screw feet on the bottom of the machine

PunishmentRoundupWithJoon · 23/09/2022 22:52

It's on a low spin with something lodged under one corner!

uncomfortablydumb53 · 23/09/2022 22:58

I was going to add but pp got there before me!
There are feet at the bottom which you unscrew until they're level

PunishmentRoundupWithJoon · 24/09/2022 12:28

Thanks everyone, will be addressing these issues before the next wash!
