Job interview and pre-booked holiday

Hi everyone, hoping you can point me in the right direction.

When is the best time to tell a potential new employer of pre-booked holidays - at interview stage, after job offer but before acceptance or sometime else?

I'm thinking after any job offer but before I have accepted but I've not been in this position before. I've had a brief telephone interview and I now have a second face-to-face interview next week.

All advice welcome 🙂

At the same time that you accept the job offer.

I've always done it at Job offer stage.

shivawn · 23/09/2022 19:51

Don't mention it at the interview! Wait until you get an offer :)

How long are the holidays and is the job seasonal? Ie, is the holiday likely to fall at an inconvenient time for the new company? It wouldn't bother me to find out about holidays after an offer was accepted or even in the first week. However, it could make a difference if they were at a busy time for example you're a teacher with the first week of the new year planned as holiday.

Good luck with your face to face.

If it's not going to seriously inconvenience the new employer, don't tell them till after the job offer.

when discussing accepting an offer

I work in recruitment and we always ask candidates at interview, if they have any holday booked.

Job offer stage, unless asked specifically earlier e.g. at interview. It's not relevant before then

Justpondering12 · 23/09/2022 20:31

We always ask during the interview. Purely so that we can work around when determining start dates but I always offer assurances that should they be made an offer, we will work around their dates. I’ve worked with hundreds of hiring managers and it’s never been a deciding factor. Might of course be a different matter if you’re planning on going away for a long period, to travel about etc

Thanks everyone, fingers crossed I get an offer then 🤞

If they ask about start date availability during the interview, I would also mention the holiday
