NHS payrise

I wonder if anyone would be able to answer a question about the NHS ‘payrise’. I got my payslip today and will get my backpay on Tuesday with a small amount deducted for pension arrears. Firstly, the arrears amount was smaller than I was expecting and secondly I’m still on the 9.3% pension whereas I thought I was going up to 9.8%. Has anyone else had this re the pension particularly? I’m wondering if the % amount will go up next month if we’re paid in arrears.

Be careful and don't presume anything. A minority of NHS staff will get a "pay rise " that is actually a deduction in take home pay this time. While others will get far less than expected.

HR have told me, and other band 8a staff, that we owe them in the region of £700 thanks to the pay rise! It affects some band 3 and 5 staff too.

You actually earn more (actual take home pay) as a top B7 than 8a ......... go figure. What an incentive for progressing your career

I worked out a while ago that the Band 7's I supervise earn more than me anyway as I am on a 34 hours contact over 4 days but end up working more than full-time because of the workload, so I work more hours than them and get less pay. Also just found out that bands 2-7 and 10 plus all get more than 4% pay rise going forward but for some reason 8' s and 9's get 1.5% !!! It really makes you wonder why you bother🙁🙁🙁🙁

@vdbfamily

I only recent took on 8a post.
Massive increase in workload, responsibility and stress. All for them to reduce my take home pay. I feel like walking.

klipwa....I feel your pain. The other joy is that there is only one incremental rise and you have to work for 5 years to get it. I think the fact that I will have been in post 5 years in Jan 2023 is stopping me leaving as I then get a decent rise. I try and convince myself that what I pay out in pension will come back to me one day, if I survive long enough to enjoy it!!

@vdbfamily I am a band 2. I think you will find the higher % for band 2 can't speak for the others, is so that we are on a living wage.

From what I have seen though it only includes those at the top of band 2.

I got a new job earlier this year and went from the top of band 8a to the bottom of band 8b. My pay rise is £14 a month take home!

I got my payslip yesterday, top of band 6 and I had £3 less than usual. My pension contributions went up to 12.5%. I didn't think band 6 was affected by the change in pensions but now I'm totally confused. Every month my pay varies a little bit, no idea why. It's so depressing I actually had to laugh a little.

I got my payslip yesterday and am bottom b5 I was pushed into the 9.3% (or whatever it is) pension bracket but that goes down to 7.1% I think next month. I ended up with an extra £300 but that was with some O/T as well.

I'm mid band 7 and my pension is 9.3% so yours must be wrong.

Quail15 · 26/09/2022 19:46

I'm top band 7, but only 24.5 hrs. I'm £40 down on this months pay as I've been pushed up into the next pension bracket.
I did have a letter from my trust warning me that my salary could be up to £200 down so I suppose I should be 'grateful'........

Dentist here. No pay rise. Hospital dentists got theirs, NHS dentists don't, and even if we do they don't always get passed on by the company I work for.

Fiddlersgreen · 26/09/2022 20:06

I don’t get my payslip until tomorrow but I am band 3 in outer London.
As far as I’m aware, the pay rise doesn’t push me into the next pension bracket as I’m already paying 7.1% however I believe the contribution amounts are changing from October and I’ll be paying 7.7% and then 8.3% from “phase 2” whenever that might be

Pleasegivemeyourwisdom · 26/09/2022 21:24

Hi

Can anyone tell me the % pay rise that was given? Thanks

MojoJojo71 · 26/09/2022 22:35

@Pleasegivemeyourwisdom it’s not the same % for everyone, it was £1400 per annum for bands 2-5 and 8 and above and 4% for bands 6 and 7

Pleasegivemeyourwisdom · 06/10/2022 14:08

Ah, only in England do you know? Or Scotland too? X

Pleasegivemeyourwisdom · 07/10/2022 08:13

Bump

MojoJojo71 · 08/10/2022 17:43

Different in Scotland. As far as I’m aware NHS staff in Scotland have been offered 5% but unions have recommended rejecting it, I don’t know whether it’ll be paid in the meantime while negotiations are ongoing like it has been in England
