Recommend me a camp site in Wales please!

We’re thinking of booking Wales next year for a week’s camping and we’re just wondering where people would recommend. Ideally North/Mid Wales, near a beach and a town, plenty to do in the surrounding area for little kids (they will be just 6 and 15mo). Campsite itself we don’t mind as long as there’s a play area, nice facilities and electric hookup but I don’t mind smaller sites as I’m more inclined to let the oldest run about on his own whereas I’d be a bit more cautious on a big site. Thanks for any recommendations 😊

Many people enjoy Shell Island. It's huge with beautiful views, play area, little cafe. Good, clean showering blocks. Few 'rules' ( so very different to the Camping and Caravan club sites). I liked that you are free to camp where you like but could see that large crowds of young people camping together could be an issue with noise at times. I know it's favourite and popular place for large groups to go in the winter months
It's cut off for a few hours each day by the tide I recall so you have to time your arrival carefully.
I personally didn't particularly enjoy my week there, the high winds didn't help as we were camped on top of a cliff and couldn't even get out of the van some days. The cafe was grotty, the bar area OK. The beach was lovely though

I have camped at Shell Island with young children and they enjoyed it a lot but I agree it is very windy. We picked the most sheltered spot that we could but it was still windy. They don't have electric hookups. Their "rules" say families and couples only, and no noise after 10pm. It's such a big site that I'm not sure how they would enforce the curfew but I don't remember it being particularly noisy. We went to Harlech Castle and on a waterfall walk nearby, then spent loads of time on the beach

Graig Wen is a lovely camp site with direct access to the Mawddach estuary and a car free walk/bike ride to Barmouth. It's in a beautiful spot.

Personally, I've avoided North Wales in the high season for more than 20 years - I had a couple of camping trips with my young kids more or less ruined by Scousers - always in large groups of more than one family, kids kicking a ball against your car, tent, caravan, kids out very early and very late - very noisy, lots of swearing - when the campsite is full you won't have an option to move to another pitch. I packed up and left a day early on one occasion. One NT run campsite in the Lake District through people off on the middle of the night after I rang the warden and complained - it seems I wasn't the only person to have complained. Other campsites have not wanted to do anything at all. Liverpool's a great city to visit, friendly people, I support the team, have a an in-law from Liverpool, etc - but some of them really let the place down badly. I stopped flying from Liverpool John Lennon for the same reasons - I always fly from East Midlands or Birmingham now. Anway - as I said, I avoid camping in North Wales unless it's outside the school holidays.

It’s a great campsite and right beside the beach. Would be my top recommendation.

Three Cliffs Bay campsite is even better and the coastal location is stunning but I never allow my children into the water there after a number of fatalities over the years due to the current so I drive to other beaches.

If you go to Pitchup. com you’ll find lots of information. Tells you where in Wales the sites are if you’re looking for North or Mid .
Sites are given marks out of ten for facilities , with most useful information in the review section from people who have camped at the sites. Lots of photos etc.

The campsite at Rhaeadr Nantcol Waterfalls.

Its about 5 miles north of Barmouth, a mile from a lovely beach at Llanfair and inland slightly. A few different fields, lovely facilities, hook-ups, lots of walks from site but also close to coast and on edge of Snowdonia.

My DD spent last week there, we visited for day on Saturday, it is a lovely place. We did the waterfall walk, went into Barmouth for lunch and a walk then stopped at Llanfair beach on way home.

Came here to post the same. Truly magical campsite, beautiful setting and the pitches all have fire pits which really makes camping special imo. The secluded pitches aren’t much more than regular ones and a lot of space- you’ll be 20 yards from the next pitch. They’re also pretty hot on keeping numbers down, only one tent/car allowed per pitch and it keeps large groups away, it’s always been very peaceful when I’ve visited. Well stocked shop with lots of local goodies- the beers are great.

I have a lot of friends who camp at Shell Island, they go every year and love the place.

Celtic Camping and bunkhouses, St David's. Close enough to the city to get a fabulous Indian takeaway; amazing cliff top views. And safe beaches nearby. Lovely camp site.
