Midwife is an obvious one but I am a bit too squeamish! Confused

What jobs are there that work with babies? I absolutely love them and can’t get enough 😍

What on earth is uncomfortable about liking babies? Confused

I mean, I am obviously sorry if I’ve made you feel uncomfortable but I have to admit I’m completely stumped as to how or why.

I have one child who is 2. I am 41.

Actually, I am really uncomfortable that something as innocent and lovely as liking babies has been twisted into something awful. Couldn’t you have just reported it to MN?

Nursery?

NotVeryHopefulBeenHereB4 · 22/09/2022 21:35

I'm a nursery nurse and work with babies. I love them too but be warned it's not just cuddling and playing with babies all day.

It's dealing with 5 crying babies at once, squeezing in written observations, cleaning and planning of activities before the babies start to wake up after their lunch nap, growing an extra pair of hands to make sure Sally gets her 5oz cows milk bottle, Jane gets her 7oz dairy free bottle and Oliver gets his 4oz breast milk bottle all at 10am, don't mix them up!

Each month 3 lots of different artwork must be made with each baby then you have to pull time out of your arse to take the old artwork down and put the new artwork up on the display boards, all while holding Tilly on your hip because she's a high needs baby and screams if you leave the room.

Shadowing Jack because he's turned into Jaws and bitten other children 4 times in the last week while simultaneously nursing a calpol-filled Lily who's teething and loaded with the cold and a bit grizzly.

Getting poo on your t-shirt because while you were changing Joshua's nappy for the 3rd time, he's had a live action poo-explosion right there and then. See also, Riley projectile vomiting over you when she's developing a tummy bug and needs cuddles and also Alfie having a sneezing fit, catapluting a lovely snot-rocket straight into your eyeball.

If you can do all this with a smile then roll your sleeves up and crack on Grin

@NotVeryHopefulBeenHereB4

Ican only imagine. I actually did my work experience in a nursery (a very long time ago) and while I enjoyed being in the baby room - have always liked babies - I live in terror of toddlers!

I am having a very broody moment. Someone went to a class today with a tiny baby (she had a toddler as well) and apologies if it makes anyone uncomfortable but he was absolutely beautiful and it made me realise how much I’ve always liked babies and I think in a way I missed my calling in life!

My own child was a dream come true but we had a difficult birth, my memories of those very first weeks are a bit confused.

edin16 · 22/09/2022 22:13

My first thought was NICU or childrens nurse but then i read that you're squeamish. And midwives don't actually deal with babies that much, they are there for the woman.

Maternity nurse sounds right up your street?

autienotnaughty · 22/09/2022 22:44

Early years worker in a children centre

@NotVeryHopefulBeenHereB4 Yep. That just about sums it up. Extremely difficult job.
