Dying with natural dyes

I'm thinking about dying some brushed cotton pillowcases with vegetable dye, most likely red cabbage.

Has anyone used natural dyes and what success have you had with them?

Wondering how colour fast they'll be once the dye is fixed and whether it fades?

The colour probably won't last very long with using red cabbage. It's classed as a 'fugitive' dye.
Have a look at botanical dying, for pink ish colour you can use avocado skins and pip/nut also hibiscus is very good.

Thank you! I've just looked up hibiscus and it has a beautiful colour

@WoozieFloozie do you have any experience of dying with turmeric?

@GobbolinoTheWitchesCat Hi, No I've not used turmeric. For yellow/orange colours, I usually use onion skins or dried marigolds, they both work well. Onions give a more earthy ochre tone.

Thank you, food for thought :)
