If you live on jersey how the hell do you afford a home. I just can't fathom it.

Got back from a lovely break. Such a beautiful island. Amazing food. But the prices.

I've never been anywhere so expensive!!

Pretty sure there are two prices on the island, one for locals and a higher price for non-locals.

They are still extremely expensive and the people I spoke to who were buying there (as locals) basically said it just takes years of saving and hoping you won't be priced out.

Not too prices at all. It's almost impossible. Lots and lots of people rent because of this.

Have just come across this @whenwillthemadnessend; and the answer is with great difficulty, and almost always with help from family.

I was lucky enough to inherit a good amount of money at the right time to buy a small flat. A year or two later and even with 100k deposit it wouldn't have been enough to buy one on my own.

In answer to the PP, there aren't two sets of prices, but you have to have lived here for 10 years before you are eligible to buy (unless you're super rich, when you may be granted permission to buy right away, on the basis that you'll be paying a massive old whack of tax to the island in return).

While cost of living is expensive here, comparable with London, some aspects are cheaper, for example running a car costs very little here with low insurance, no road tax and no MOTs. We are very lucky to have had our electricity prices protected for the time being too, so heating isn't an issue like we're seeing in the UK.
