Alternative spellings don't have the right letter count

I can't see letter counts on my computer. I did ask some time ago how people were managing it but got no answer. So anyone who gets it by counting letters is cheating in my book.🙄

Anyway, for today's heading it's not a case of trying to put the alternative spelling in, because I could see it would have required more words. It was a case of thinking that the correct wording couldn't be correct because it's just not a way it would ever occur to me to write it.

I can't see the letter count either @LaGioconda! Not even on my phone.

These two pictures show how letter counting works on a phone.
Long press the word and drag the blue end of the "select" box, counting how many letter-sized jumps it makes.

Trouble is, @InMySpareTime, I don't do redactle on my phone! (I don't think I could bear to!)

But thank you for the pictures/explanation.

On a computer you could right click on the word with a mouse, and drag the select box to count letters.

I'll try that later.

That's how I do it - I only realised that was possible the other week. Pedantle (cemantle.certitudes.org/pedantle) helpfully just tells you length if you click on it.
