Experiences of Vinted

I'm in the process of having a good old wardrobe declutter and have dug out a few decent unworn items (most with tags on). I was thinking of selling them to make a little bit of cash back. I wondered if anyone had any experience of using Vinted and could give me any pointers/words of caution to help me out as a complete newbie. I'm not expecting to make a fortune, just enough to cover postage and possibly a few quid extra. TIA

Another here to say I think InPost isn’t working. I wonder if their system was really not ready for the influx of Vinted orders when it became an option. I haven’t sold but buy a lot on Vinted and so far every order I placed to go to the InPost lockers is sitting at a depot with a ‘sorry this is running late’ message from InPost. It says if it’s marked lost I will get a refund which must mean the seller will be out the item and the cash! So even though I loved the idea of picking up from a locker, I would steer clear.

I shop entirely by search so I would say writing descriptions with the words people search for can make or break you. I also prefer listings that include a photo of the size label, because Vinted has a weird idea of what S M L actually mean. I ordered something listed as ladies Small once and it had a 24 inch waist with zero stretch. One look at the label would have given me that info.

If you have an item that got lots of favourites but no buyer and went quiet, drop the price by even the smallest amount. If you take 50p off, it sends a notification to everyone who has it in their faves. It definitely can work because I’ve gone to look at something I faved ages ago on those notifications and someone has beaten me to buying it! I add a lot of things to faves as window shopping and then later check with DS or what’s in our wardrobe to see if it will work or not. But I do end up buying a fair few of them over time!

I’ve followed a few sellers by finding out their kids like a similar style and are a size or two bigger, so I end up buying their hand me downs basically, and that works so well. If someone buys a bundle of kid stuff from you, it could pay off to let them know you’ll probably have more in size xyz or whatever. :)

I'd definitely recommend trying to add descriptions and measurements if you can. On the whole, I find vinted sellers give less information than ebay ebay sellers, which is the frustrating thing for me. Because I am tall and a lot of items are too short on me, I end up having to message most sellers.

I buy and sell on there all the time. Its great, much easier and no fees like ebay.

I’m a frequent purchaser

what attracts me is a reasonably full description. So many say “as new” or some such and nothing else. If it’s a size 12 but a neat fit I’d like to know that for example. Lots of non blurry photos showing details. IRON the item!

if someone asks a question answer it quickly eg re length of a dress or washing instructions (dry clean only for example)

good comms - if you won’t be able to post for a few days or you are holiday just send a message, that’s fine!

I like parcels sent by EVRI as I can collect from my corner shop but not sure what difference that makes from your end.

I love Vinted and always filter by new with tags and by price and have had some complete gems

I have a question for a seller - if the postage is given to be a certain price and is sent by royal mail and it is found to be that not enough was charged can you be asked for the difference after sending and not contacting the buyer to ask if they want to still carry on with the sale or choose a different shipping option and end up having to pay the equivalent of double the items worth.

I have tried looking In the help section and have asked vinted to contact me but wondered if anyone on mumsnet could help.

Thank you if you can.

I've done well on Vinted. I'm losing weight for medical reasons, so I stick to second hand clothes right now, as well as choosing second hand for sustainable reasons. I leave the balance from selling stuff in the app to buy new stuff if I want.

My plus size clothes and wide fitting footwear do well, wide fitting footwear can be pricy brand new. Good pics and descriptions help, including pics of anything that a buyer might use to raise a complaint, eg tears, marks, etc.

I disabled Royal Mail as an option because buying and posting is a faff with them.

One thing my daughter showed me is to check reviews of sellers before buying. She's had one seller not ship the item so she got an automatic refund. Another seller did that, though, but messaged DD to say she'd been unable to post as her baby had arrived unexpectedly early. They re-arranged the transaction between them so that one ended well.

I've seen a few sellers, who had a number of poor reviews, it's just a case of doing research and using your judgement.

Having just chatted with my DD about this thread, she says there's a notice about parcel delays on the In-Post website.

In post have been terrible recently, lockers aren’t always full and take forever to sort at their office.

Bedofroses85 · 06/11/2022 11:17

I like vinted and have used it a few times but I'm getting frustrated with getting things advertised as used but in perfect condition to then get them with holes . This has happened twice with jumpers. Then although the vendor accepts the responsibility and is happy to refund I have to spend money returning them? This after I have already paid insurances and protection etc , not quite fair.

Birdsofafeatherflocktogether · 06/11/2022 11:30

I can’t buy anything!
I choose what I want,go through the steps to pay and it won’t go any further!
I’ve been forced to give up on it after lots of trying

I tend to use Vinted for clothes and toys and EBay for collectibles. Vinted does tend to price low. But you don't pay fees to sell, which compensates a little. And as it's a fixed price, not an auction, you always know what your final sale price will be.

Personally, I find the interface easier than EBay. Listing items is quicker and there's so much traffic on Vinted that most of my items sell easily. Quickest sale I've had on Vinted was 20 mins, slowest was 3 months. Average is about a week if priced realistically and with decent photos.

I buy a lot off Vinted too. Both my and my DS's winter coats came off Vinted and Bought a really lovely pair of M&S white trainers on Vinted this week. NWT. £20 (original price was £49.) If buying, remember there are also buyers fees and postage to add to the sale price.
