just that really, dd has 2 cats and lives by herself so wouldn't be able to have anyone look after them and she'd miss them too much anyway so i'm curious if there'd be any uni's that will allow her to take them with her

Best bet will be to rent privately and not be in halls, the vast majority will not allow pets and even those that do is going to be a goldfish/hamster type situation not two cats.
Renting privately will allow her to choose a uni based on course a lot easier than the restrictiveness of choosing based on potential cat friendly halls.

Well she obviously wouldn’t be able to take them to class, or have them in halls of residence but if she found suitable private accommodation the university wouldn’t care what pets she had.

She can rent privately wherever she likes if she is a student, she isn't required to reside in halls of residence.

Alternatively there are so many options for distance learning degrees now, depending on what she was planning to do the degree in perhaps that would be an option.

ClocksGoingBackwards · 22/09/2022 12:22

She’s unlikely to be allowed them in halls for many obvious reasons, but she could take them if she found a private rental that allows pets.

MyNameIsAngelicaSchuyler · 22/09/2022 12:30

Only in private rentals. No halls will allow pets.

MissBattleaxe · 22/09/2022 12:32

Is this a good idea from the POV of her cats' welfare? If she's living there permanently, then it's doable if she finds affordable accommodation and a landlord that says yes to pets (lots of ifs). If she's coming home between terms it's not fair to take the cats.

viques · 22/09/2022 12:37

I suppose she could apply to one of the woker universities ( eg Sussex) and claim they were assistance animals.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 22/09/2022 12:37

I think it maybe dependent on how many 'A' levels each cat has. And the grades, of course.

Overthebow · 22/09/2022 12:38

She can rent privately and take them with. They wouldn’t be allowed in halls.

Viviennemary · 22/09/2022 12:41

I doubt it. maybe private landlords would allow them. Can they not be rehomed.

3 A's in Mewsic, English Kitterature and Purrman Language?

Coughee · 22/09/2022 12:57

They'd have to submit an application through UCATS

I don’t think cats need a university education, all the ones I have ever supported have been born with a Doctorate in Manipulation Applied Psychology.

balalake · 22/09/2022 13:06

I doubt very much if a private rental will allow cats. Could you look after them instead?

I think the woke universities (of the real ones, not the post 1992 ones) are likely to say no.

RedWingBoots · 22/09/2022 13:08

I remember my own then more recently some of my younger relations university halls contracts had everyway to describe pets as possible to ensure you couldn't have any type of animal while living in them.

However when I wasn't living in halls I had housemates with pets both caged and uncaged, plus had visiting dogs and cats staying over. The cats were neighbours cats who only came in to get out of the rain.

Purrfect candidates for Mewniversity! especially with all the staying up all night and sleeping all day during Freshers Week

OhhhhhhhhBiscuits · 22/09/2022 13:11

In a private rental possibly, but as rentals are in such demand anyway it may be a struggle.

Some universities do allow emotional support animals but there is very strict criteria and a lot of medical evidence is required and then you still need to get the halls provider (if under contract to the uni and not a uni owned halls) to agree.

Pumpkinsnearlyready · 22/09/2022 13:13

Bet you never knew army camps allow soldiers to have a dog?
<Snippet of useless information this lunchtime! >

GreenManalishi · 22/09/2022 13:31

Private rental rather than halls would be the way to go, but miiaowst landlords won't take pets.

GiltEdges · 22/09/2022 13:34

If you mean to have them in halls, no she won’t be able to. The only animal I ever came across in halls back in my uni days was a service dog. Her best bet will be private renting, if she can find a landlord that accepts pets.
