Advice or ideas from people who WFH

Hiya

I'm hoping that some of you who work from home can advise as to what type of work you do. I am looking for a new challenge and I am aware that so many businesses are moving online, which would suit me to an extent.

I am currently a primary teacher and my contract is for 2 days per week. I'd like to do some extra work whilst my youngest is at nursery (9 to 3 Monday to Wed) but I don't wish to pick up more hours at my work. I'd really love to try something new and feel like this is the ideal time to do so.

I don't wish to sell things for a chain (scentsy, bodyshop etc). But other than that, I'm open to ideas as to what else I could try.

I used to make hair bows which I really loved but I'm not sure if I could turn it into a viable business. I'd be open to a job I could do online, but I suppose I'm kind of looking for ideas as I'm not sure what is out there!

I am relatively creative, I love sports (mostly football) and I have a BA in accounting (completed prior to my education postgrad).

Thank you in advance

I think your best bet would be something related to accounting as pay would be better/hours flexible, but you’d be starting at the bottom as you didn’t do any post degree training as far as I can tell

Get in touch with employment agencies in your field who will be better able to steer you in the right direction

Market Research or call centre work (think 111) you can always WFH.

Top one's hybrid the other fully remote, there are loads of these kinds of roles, isw.changeworknow.co.uk/ic24/vms/e/careers/positions/beBuuUAvXnnR7KsbFpTNml?utm_campaign=Health_Advisor_Recruitment&utm_medium=CPC&utm_source=Google&utm_term=Remote

It would make more sense to do bookkeeping or something related to accounts.
Loads of people are forced into self employment (tradesmen etc) and need someone to help sort their business stuff

If you’re prepared to be on a lower hourly rate, then you could look at an admin job working for your county council WFH. There are some in Childrens services where your knowledge of education would be beneficial for example

Definitely would advise making anything. Cost of materials is through the roof at the moment and by the t8me you factor in your time, marketing and shipping costs it probably isn’t worth it.

I definitely think accounting or bookkeeping is the way to go.

I'm in accounting and work flexibly at home so this could definitely work.

France98 · 22/09/2022 08:59

Thanks folks. The problem with accounting is that it's been a lot of years since I completed my course and worked in that field. I wouldn't be confident with it and I also don't think I'd be a brilliant prospect for an employer since I'm so rusty!

You really want to WFH with the huge increases in bills coming?

If you start at the bottom being rusty won’t be a problem

trust me when I say that common sense and a good work ethic are like gold dust and impossible to teach

if you have those you can learn anything else

Have a look on Linkedin - Financial services especially Pensions Admin (related to my role) are crying out for people and are offering full remote working. If you are a teacher and are good with numbers and can use basic software you should find it easy to work in.

Virtual assistant with bookkeeping skills?
Look up vact.co.uk for some ideas.

I'm at home on these days anyway.
