Has anyone here made sugar mice? I'm looking for a recipe that dries out hard, like the ones you can buy

The one we tried last weekend didn't dry out very well & the mice lost their heads on the way out of the mould 🙈🐭

Hmm afraid I don't have an answer OP but homemade sugar mice sound great fun. Possibly less so for headless mice...

Mould them by hand, the mould retains moisture unevenly so unless you have a commercial machine the breakage will continue. Anyway, they look cute made by hand

Haven't had a sugar mouse for years!

Let them dry a bit longer. It takes longer than you think!

Thinking about this some more, you can get an edible non stick spray, might that be the answer to your problems?

I suspect the reason they are hard in the shops is that they are weeks old rather than hours/a day.

This is what I was thinking of: not sure if it would work for sugar.

I've been thinking about this some more & think they probably do take a lot longer than stated to dry out - they're really just royal icing dough, aren't they

I made some years ago. Used a mould and they came out fine. No idea which recipe I used so not much help other than go say persevere.

Maybe put them in the airing cupboard?
