SO many people are rehoming their dogs

I know of five separate families/people who are trying to find new homes for their dogs. Five! All of them were bought or adopted in the last 3 years.

What's going on? Is it the cost of living? Post-lockdown regret? Is this happening everywhere?

Humans are idiots. Alot got digs in lockdown as an excuse to go out or through boredom! It's shocking

It should be much, much harder to purchase a kitten or a puppy. People are stupid, selfish and irresponsible. They should have to b trained and pass a test before an animal is subjected to them. Things have to change. Animal charities are just picking up the pieces all the damned time then get moaned at if they can't arrive at an incident in time. We all feel sorry for the NHS and ambulance drivers yet animal charities are treated like crap and they don't even get centrally funded at all!

@Quveas Are you me?!
I have an endowed charity and have donated huge amounts to various charities as well as owned land and home which I let a rescue use for nothing for years.

But when I was finally in a position to adopt or foster (I already had 2 dogs) the Greek charity I supported completely ignored me. I think they saw me as the finance and thought that might dry up when I moved into doing something else. Well it did anyway.

I now have 7 rescues which I adopted directly from a Greek shelter but many won’t go to the trouble I did and will enrich puppy breeders.
my dogs have a great life with good walks and we are around all day but this isn’t good enough apparently.

@oakleaffy i feel your pain with nanny state rescues but please don’t give up.
look on Facebook and Next door and people often put up unwanted pets on Gumtree - not ideal but it is still rescuing an unwanted pet.

I've reported 4 people just this week for trying to sell/re home dogs on our local fb page
All bought during covid lockdown

I'm retired, but fit and walk 1-1.5 hrs a day anyway. Previous dog owner. If anything happens to me my son would have the dog.

Been turned down by 2 charities due to my age...and completely ignored by another when I apply to adopt or foster. Probably because I was once offered a dog [not of my choice] to foster by them but it had problems I was not able to deal with and I didn't feel confident with the dog.

I'm looking privately, and I've seen most people want the money back they spent on the dog/pup...and the dog has behavioural problems/no socialisation/no training and/or is out of control.
