Glasses when one eye shortsighted and the other eye is longsighted

I recently got my eyes tested and the result was one eye was longsighted +0.75 and one eye shortsighted -1.50. The optician told me to get glasses for distance as my main issue seems to be when driving or reading subtitles on the TV.

However having got the glasses I find everything is a bit blurry and I feel quite woozy. The optician insisted I carry on wearing them as my eyes will adjust however given I am only wearing them for distance I don't see how they will adjust. I have tried for a few weeks with no improvement and they are now suggesting reducing the prescription.

I am wondering if anyone else has had success with glasses with a longsighted and shortsighted eye? I found this article about it which suggested that contact lenses would be better but I am not sure given that the prescription does not work for reading

Just wondering if anyone else has had the same issue and what helped?

I had a very shortsighted left eye and a 'normal' right one which became long sighted as I got older. I dealt with it by using a contact lens in my left eye and as I got older reading glasses on top.

I've since had surgery on both eyes for cataracts meaning I'm longsighted in both eyes so wear readers only.

To clarify

To clarify when you have cataracts treated on the NHS, you are left either short or long sighted. You choose. So I'm no longer short sighted in one eye but long in both.

I have the same problem with my eyesight, I have varifocals, they work perfectly well, dont need a pair for reading and a pair for distance. You just need a couple of weeks to get used to wearing them.
