Hi - has anyone been to Goa recently? I last went 25 years ago!

My parents would like to go but they are both elderly- dad is 80 and not very mobileI - is it a good holiday destination for the older traveller? We might do a tiny bit of sightseeing but mainly going for the heat. Does it feel like you are in India or is it so commercialised that it could be anywhere ?

Any thoughts and recommendations for hotels very welcome.

We are thinking of a week mid to late November.

Thanks

My DH's family are from Goa so we go frequently but to see his family. I don't know much from a tourist perspective such as hotels etc. It still feels very Indian to me (I've travelled around India so do know how India is). My in-laws tell me it's more laid back and less Conservative than a lot of India - but you certainly feel like you're in India. I think it's beautiful. A tropical paradise and really somewhere you can relax. Very warm sea, good food etc. November is a good time to go as you avoid the monsoon and most humid times of year - although I still find it very humid.
I'm not sure how it is in terms of your dad's mobility - I suppose if he stays near his hotel or resort he should be OK. We always have a driver there so get around easily. I can't go on long walks there because of the heat.

Thank you - that is very helpful x

I last went pre Covid similar to pp going to family. Then the south was quieter - less night life still wonderful beaches. 5 star hotels will have all the facilities you want. There was a bit less begging even in cities.

We have been more than ten times and love it, preferring the south as it is quieter. The north can have a better supply of restaurants but also tends to have younger, badly behaved Brits. At least older people get tipsy and just smile!
The beaches are beautiful but IMO the sea is not really safe for swimming as it can be quite rough.
We had to cancel our last holiday there because of covid and are hesitating to rebook at the moment because, when we look at the website of our favourite hotel, there still seems to be a lot of mask wearing.
