Horrendous mosquito bites abroad.. and currently TTC :(

Hi all,

I'm currently abroad in Bali, and have been eaten alive this past week with mosquito bites. Some of them are oozing (sorry to be graphic) and waking me up in the night as they're so hot and itchy. I think due to the areas on my legs in particular, and the swelling, they feel more painful than usual.

We are currently on our honeymoon and trying to conceive; but I think I'm going to have to put a stop to it for several months since we've been looking online and Bali is a zika risk country.

Not really sure what I'm asking here- maybe just wanting to vent? 😂🫣 does anybody know of any remedies to avoid bites and also reduce pain, itching and swelling? We are staying extremely remotely so not able to get to shops easily.

Thank you!

It was dreadful in france in august - even the french were getting eaten alive!

DH gave himself friction burns from scratching. ☹

The only relief I got, which saved my skin, was to rub ice cubes all over the affected areas. Bliss.

Hope you feel better soon.

You should be able to get tiger balm easily. Otherwise if you can antihistamine tablets are fabulous. Do try not to itch as it makes them so much worse.

There’s a local remedy in Indonesia, can’t remember what it’s called but smells amazing and easily available. Show off your bites in a shop and you’ll get it!

Tiger balm, the white one.

Hydrocortisone cream if you have it and tablet anti-histamine but tiger balm works wonders.

If you cant get tiger balm (will sting, but then build heat and relief, plus seal bites that are open), then heat a teaspoon in boiling water, let it cool a little but while its still hot pop it over your bite. Don't burn yourself. But the heat draws the itch right out. Soo much relief.

Can't comment on zika risk.

All mosi bites do that to me. Drives me nuts with the itching. Hair dryer pointed at them until they feel uncomfortable, little painful (then immediately stop, you don't want to burn yourself) helps as does ice cubes. It is only a temporary relief and or me will carry on coming back for weeks. Best option is prevention. You need loads of spray which has deet in it. And cover up legs at night.

Try citronella oils, candles, etc they're a very good repellent.
